1. Overview 

The CALP-Bloom Evaluation Rubric is a formative assessment tool that examines both cognitive level and academic language proficiency at the same time. It helps EMI instructors assess presentations, oral reports, and other academic tasks while capturing students' content understanding and language communication quality in a single framework. The rubric has been validated through a 3-round e-Delphi expert review and published in Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (DOI: 10.1057/s41599-026-07242-8). 

2. How to Use It

1. Choose the matching version: Select the "Presentation Slides" or "Oral Presentation" version depending on the task. Instructors may also adapt the wording as needed for other written or oral forms of tasks such as essays.

2. Score against the six cognitive levels: Rate Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analysing, Evaluating, and Creating using the 1–5 CALP-point scale. The focus is on effective communication—language errors only count when they hinder comprehension.

3. Adjust the weighting to fit your course: Each cognitive level comes with a suggested weight (e.g., 6x for Creating, 4x for Evaluating). Instructors can adjust these freely based on course goals (e.g., science courses emphasizing application/analysis, humanities courses emphasizing evaluation).

4. Add qualitative feedback: Alongside the numeric score, add written comments to give students concrete direction for improvement.
