Professor and Head of Institute and Director of Color, Imaging & Illumination Center

Dr.Chien-Yu Chen is a Professor and Head of the Graduate Institute of Color and Illumination Technology at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST). He also serves as the Director of the Color, Imaging & Illumination Center. He earned his Ph.D. in Optics and Photonics from National Central University. His research includes 3D holographic displays, 3D floating projection, human factors-based medical lighting, visual optics for wearable devices, and the design and fabrication of ultra-precision optical components.

Prof. Chen has actively contributed to international professional organizations. Since 2022, he has served as the Honored Chairperson of the 3D Interaction & Display Association (3DIDA). He has also been a Committee Member of the Society for Information Display (SID) – Applied Vision and has been the Convener of Division 6 of the International Commission on Illumination–Taiwan (CIE-Taiwan) since 2014. With more than 95 SCI journal papers, 160 international conference papers, and over 30 patents, research combines optical system innovation with AI-driven computational holography and 3D floating display optics, advancing next-generation display systems. He is particularly focused on human-centered health lighting technologies and continues to foster collaboration between academia and industry to explore innovative applications and expand future possibilities.
