PCSX2 Special Build - This is REQUIRED for the mods to work, even if you already have the emulator on your system.
NT04 Mod Master Tool - This is the main tool in which you will customize settings, select packs, load race stats etc.
You will also need at least one pack from the Mod Packs PageÂ
This Setup page assumes you already have a BIOS file and the ISO for Thunder 2004. We cannot provide these files for you.
1. Launch the special build of PCSX2
2. Navigate to the bios screen via System -> Start BIOS
3. After the PS2 startup screen, select System Configuration.Â
4. Go down to the 2nd option, "Screen Size"
5. Select the option and change it to 16:9
6. Back out of the option to ensure it applies.
7. Select System -> Shut Down via the PCSX2 menus and this should apply to all games that utilize the BIOS setting (which includes Thunder 2004)
8. Finally change the Aspect Ratio of the emulator to 16:9 via:
Settings -> Graphics -> Display tab -> Aspect Ratio: -> Widescreen (16:9)
The following are not required, but recommended (especially to reduce blurriness in Thunder 04 with objects in the distance).
This is not a step by step guide, simply match the settings I show below as closely as you can.
These are accessed when no game is loaded under Settings, or when a game is running by selecting any option under Settings EXCEPT "Game Properties"
Make note of the "Search Directoy" for the textures. (Open notepad and copy it for later)
These are accessed when Nascar Thunder 2004 is loaded by going to Settings->Game Properties
Anything that is set to "Global" or a solidly filled 'checkbox' uses the global settings, which were set above and apply to all games.
Everything specifically checked, unchecked, or selected that doesn't specify "Global" must be set specifically for Thunder 04.
Note: In the 2nd screenshot below, I have the Internal Resolution set to 4x. If your game runs slow you can lower this to improve performance. Or if your game seems to run smoothly at all times, you can increase this to improve visual quality. The modded textures are higher resolution than the base game, as a result the game can run a little slower with the whole field on screen, that's why this setting is your best bet to fine tune a smooth running game experience.
After downloading the mod tool from the link at the top of this page, unzip the folder to wherever you'd like the mod files to be on your computer.
Before you can use the mod tool, you must setup at least one pack. See the Mod Packs Page for download links.
1. Once you've downloaded a mod pack, unzip it's contents to any location temporarily on your computer. (You can delete this folder after you're done the Mod Pack Setup section.
2. Inside of the mod pack's folder (it may be 2 levels deep) you'll find a few folders that should include Packs, Paints, Schedules, and Stats. Note: They may include additional folders and files, but this is the minimum needed to work.
3. Select all of these folders (Ctrl + A) then cut (Ctrl + X)
4. Navigate to where you placed your Mod Tool (The folder that has the Application and a few folders such as DataFiles, NT04Data, Player) and go into the NT04Data folder. Paste the files you cut in step 3 here (Ctrl + V)
5. If you're prompted to overwrite any files, make sure you select Overwrite All Files (especially if downloading a pack update)
Launch the mod tool application 'NT04_ModMaster.exe'. If you see an error that says "No Packs Installed", please refer to the above section "Mod Pack Setup" before continuing.
The main screen may seem intimidating, but we are only covering two specific items on the General Tab here.
Cheat File Folder, and Texture Pack Output Folder (yours should be blank right now):
1. Open a file explorer window and navigate to the link you saved from the end of the Global Settings steps.
2. You may need to create New Folders and rename them for the following steps.
3. Navigate into (or create then navigate into) an "SLUS-20824" folder.
4. Navigate into (or create then navigate into) a "replacements" folder.
5. Navigate into (or create then navigate into) an "NT04Pack" folder which will store the texture output from the program.
Note: Additional texture files and folders can be placed in the replacements folder, but I recommend this "NT04Pack" folder since the Mod Tool will automatically delete files inside of this folder when necessary.
6. Click in the gap (circled in the image below) to enter the address bar.
7. Press 'Ctrl + A' to select all of the address. Press 'Ctrl + C' to copy the selected address.
8. Go to the Mod Tool application again.
9. Click inside the empty text box to the right of "Texture Pack Output Folder:"
10. Press 'Ctrl + V' to paste the address into this text box.
1. Open the PCSX2 emulator
2. Click Settings -> Folders
3. Click inside the text box for the "Cheats Directory"
4. Press 'Ctrl + A' to select all the text.
5. Press 'Ctrl + C' to copy the selected text.
6. Go to the Mod Tool application again.
7. Click inside the empty text box to the right of "Cheat File Folder:"
10. Press 'Ctrl + V' to paste the address into this text box.
You are free to close the Mod Tool application to ensure the addresses you added save.
