Spain has begun a period of isolation, due to the large amounts of death and destruction of the civil war, however the government has slowly strayed away from fascism to monarchism. They have started to tax the entry of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean angering Britain, but it helped the economic situation. The Carlist government used this new revenue to incite a pro-Carlist rebellion within Portugal. The rebellion went far better than what the Spanish government would have expected, and lead to the total collapse of the Portuguese empire, losing all of their oversea territories. From then it was simple for the Spanish government to incorporate the Portuguese territory, although there is still resentment from much of the Portuguese population.
