THE ADDAMS FAMILY
This photo was taken in the middle of the first act during dress rehearsal of the spring musical, "The Addams Family." In the scene that was taking place, Wednesday Addams was begging her parents to act normal around her new boyfriend in a musical number. As I was standing on the left side of the stage, I noticed the three main characters center stage, with the supporting characters in the distance, so I waited for Gomez to turn toward me so I could have him and Wednesday in the center as the other characters were out of focus but in the background.
LISTEN MOM AND DAD. Singing "One Normal Night" in "The Addams Family" musical, Wednesday Addams, preformed by Devon Vick '21, asks her parents Morticia and Gomez , played by Savannah Thomas '21 and Devon Ogle '20, to not embarrass her when her boyfriend's parents attend dinner. "Aside from the community of alumni and supporters who come to our shows, what makes our performances is we don't let anything go on if we're not happy with it. We value quality over everything," Deven Ogle said. photo by j. bishop
CHSSA SOFTBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Softball at Brighton High School ended with a record of 19-6-1, with the team winning their regional tournament earning them a spot in the 2019 CHSAA State Tournament. In their first playoff game, I noticed that no one was standing behind the plate on the outside of the fence and decided to set myself up there for an inning. I stood to the side of the catcher, Chloe Doyle, so I could capture the angle of the fast pitch of Tori Haug, with the the outfielder and catcher in the frame.
HERE'S THE PITCH. Tori Haug '20 throws a pitch toward home plate to catcher Chloe Doyle '20 at the state tournament. "Pitching is my favorite part of the game because I'm in every single play. I'm the one that gets to control how fast paced the game will go, " Tori Haug said. photo by j. bishop
LULAC
While I was standing on the corner of 8th and Egbert Street, I took this photo of our LULAC organization doing a folklorico dance while marching in our Homecoming Parade. As I watched the girls walk towards me, I noticed how their dresses were moving and how they were standing in two straight lines. I changed my shutter speed, and moved quickly into the street to take this photo, trying to get the leading lines of the performers.
LET'S DANCE. Twirling her skirt next to Marisol Lemus-Corona '21, Irahamar Gonzalez '20 and Jenifer Valladares '21, Nathali Hernandez Pendroza '22 preforms for the crowd of adults and children watching her dance on Friday for the Homecoming Parade. " LULAC is a family. When we march in the parade, we share our culture with our town and school. That's important to me and the others who want to share who we are and what we stand for in our Culture," Nathali Hernandez Pendroza said. photo by j. bishop
PEACH FUZZ
I took this photo during the traditional Peach Fuzz tournament that takes place every year during Homecoming Week. The juniors called a time out, and they huddled around each other talking about what their next play was going to be. I noticed how passionate Tristan was, so I moved around looking for the right angle where I could get a picture of him talking to his team with his teammates framing him as the center of interest.
ARE YOU LISTENING. Tristan Schweizer '21 grabs the face of Blake Blackburn '21 to motivate him during a timeout in the junior vs. senior Peach Fuzz volleyball match. The seniors beat the juniors in the tournament. "My favorite part of playing Peach Fuzz was the energy between the teams and how everyone just had fun while still staying competitive," Schweizer said. photo by j. bishop
MR. BHS PAGEANT WINNER
As the master of ceremonies was about to read the winner of the Mr. BHS Pageant, I stood stage left on the floor so I could see (and capture) the reactions of all the contestants. The moment they announced "Anthony Sianis," I quickly zoomed in on him, but I noticed that the contestant next to him, Max, was just as excited for him so I framed the photo with both of them in it. I really wanted to capture the camaraderie that I noticed the contestants displayed for one another throughout the entire competition while also capturing the emotion of the winner.
AND THE WINNER IS. Anthony Sianis '20 celebrates at the end of the ceremony after being announced the winner of the Mr. BHS Pageant while Max Weber '20 claps beside him. "I ran not to be named Mr. BHS, but to raise money for Freedom Service Dogs of America, an organization that means something to me as I plan to enter the military," Sianis said. photo by j. bishop
