Nova Scotia FairWeather College was founded in 1898 by canadian scholars from Yarmouth (Nova Scotia) who couldn't find a way to fund his idea of a progressive university in their hometown. So, they crossed the Gulf of Maine directly to the US. Finally, they got enough support there, and so NSFW was created. Being relatively close to their beloved Nova Scotia, they kept their original name and also as a way to differentiate from the other universities and colleges in New England.

Well, it's mostly for beverages, because it's very hot where the artist works, so it's just to keep him hydrated.
