About the National Seminar on Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences (RACS - 2023)
Innovation and discovery should reach to the common people and students. In an effort to popularize the benefits of scientific knowledge and practical appropriation specially based on Chemical Science, National Seminar on Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences (RACS-2023) will be organized on 16-03-2023 to 17-03-2023. This seminar will serve as a common platform for the participation of experts, dynamic researchers from Academia, Research organizations and Industry. It will provide a knowledge sharing platform for gaining an insight into the current scientific and technological advancements in the field of chemical and allied sciences. Pioneer scientists and great visionaries are being invited to deliver keynote lecture, invited and special lectures on various facets of chemical sciences. In addition, young researchers/students (like Post graduate and PhD Students, Postdoctoral researchers) participating from Universities, Institutes, Colleges of both Madhya Pradesh and country can present their work as poster and oral presentations.
The University is nestled in the heart of the India and as a premier educational institute of Madhya Pradesh, such kind of event will be beneficial for local, specially students for Madhya Pradesh (who are pursuing their studies in Chemical Science) for better exposure, enlighten interactions with the experts and their peers. Not only the high-level scientific interaction in different chemistry aspects related to contemporary topics like energy, environment, sustainable development etc., but also this seminar will provide them a useful platform directly to showcase their thoughts and works to their peers, experts, scientists, academician coming from all over the country. The seminar will also provide a platform to make a strong bridge between academia, research organizations and industry. The seminar will highlight the following thrust areas of Chemical Sciences:
· Organic Synthesis
· Asymmetric synthesis
· Catalysis
· Organometallic Chemistry
· Bio-Organic chemistry
· Bio-Inorganic Chemistry
· Material Chemistry
· Nanochemistry and hybrid nanomaterials
· Analytical Chemistry

About the University
The founder and mentor Sir Doctor Harisingh Gour desired to establish an educational institution to provide an opportunity for higher learning to cater to the rural and deprived population of Central India. Inspired by Cambridge and Oxford Universities Doctor Harisingh Gour established the University of Saugar on July 18, 1946 out of his lifelong earnings. The University was the sixteenth university in the country and the first in the State of Madhya Pradesh at that time. The University was upgraded as Central University on January 15, 2009, by the Central University Act, 2009. The University campus is spread over an area of about 1300 acres, surrounded by lush green forests, and is situated in a natural and eco-friendly environment. There are 35 independent teaching departments in the University, some of them are recognized Centers of the UGC and DST under the DRS, PURSE and FIST programmes. There are four hostels for boys and four for girls. Residential facilities are available for teachers and officials of the University. The University has well qualified and experienced faculties (www.dhsgsu.irins.org) who are continuously engaged in providing quality teaching and research to the knowledge-seeking young scholars. The Banking, Postal, Health & Sanitation, shopping complex, Indian Coffee House (ICH), and Cafeteria services are available at the University premises. The Jawaharlal Nehru Library of the University has more than 4,00,000 books. The University has various Centres and provides a congenial academic atmosphere to the learners to nurture their potential for excellence. Academic Departments, Hostels and Libraries are well equipped with Wi-Fi through National Knowledge Network (NKN) and e-resources are accessible through Wi-Fi. The Integrated University Management Systems (IUMS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) are available for providing all the possible online facilities. The NAAC appointed by UGC has awarded 'A' Grade re-accreditation to this University. This University is declared as a Central University w.e.f. 15th Jan 2009.
About the Department of Chemistry
The Department was established in 1946 right from the inception of the University under the guidance of Prof. A. K. Bhattacharya and Dr. S. N. Banerjee. It has been relentless and pioneer in spreading the chemical education in each nook and corner of the globe completing 75 years of successful journey by 2021. Under devoted teachers, the Department made significant contributions to chemical research and technology and trained several hundreds who are carrying out excellent work elsewhere. The broad areas of present research interest of teachers include – Nanoscience & Technology, Nanocomposites, Nanoporous materials, Heterogeneous Catalysis, Electrochemical Sensors and Supercapacitors, Organometallics, Electrochemistry, Material Science, Lipid Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Heterocyclic Chemistry, Natural Products, Coordination Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Synthetic & Structural Inorganic and Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, etc. More than thousand papers have been published in different journals of National and International repute from the Department. With the aim of academic technological interaction, syllabi of the PG and PhD courses have been modified. Apart from core papers, there are several elective papers (based on UGC scheme) from each branch of Chemistry which the students can choose. A Special Assistance Program (SAP) sanctioned by UGC on “Development of Advanced Electro Analytical Methods for Screening of Biomolecules, Phytochemicals, Pharmaceuticals and modified Drugs” has been completed in the Department. The Department has also been sponsored FIST (infrastructural assistance) program of DST. The Department has Rheometer, Powder Xray Diffractometer, GCTOF-MS, HPLCQTOF-MS, BET surface analyzer, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FT-IR spectrometer, Electrochemical Work Station etc. The Department is running various major research projects sanctioned by different funding agencies such as DST (Nanoscience), DST (SERB), MPCOST, and UGC. The faculty members have made remarkable contribution in teaching and establishing high quality research facility. Several faculty members enjoyed prestigious international fellowships such as Commonwealth Academic Staff Award Fellowship (UK), Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship (Germany) and so on.
