The group is interested in the study of a new class of materials known as artificial solids, built from nanoscale building blocks such as quantum dots, wires etc. Unlike classical solids, the properties of such solids depend on the individual nanoscale islands rather than the atomic composition, yielding tunable material properties. We combine the flexibility of chemistry and bottom-up assembly with electron beam lithography based top-down nanofabrication techniques to design novel materials and devices.
