CoSA Canada, an organization whose mandate is to support the work of Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) sites across the country, held its official launch as part of the National Restorative Justice Symposium at 6 p.m. on November 20, 2017 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario.
Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) is a community based reintegration program, grounded in restorative justice principles that holds sex offenders accountable for the harm they have caused while assisting with their task of re-entry into communities at the end of their sentence. CoSA began in 1994 in Hamilton, Ontario and has since developed in communities across Canada, and is now recognized as an international best practice in offender management.
CoSA Canada is proud to serve the important role of providing a platform for CoSA sites to learn, grow, and collaborate with one another. CoSA Canada will also work to empower those communities who find themselves in need of CoSA and through expanding the number of communities served by this valuable program.
This launch was be an opportunity to celebrate the history of this ‘made in Canada’ program while also marking a vital moment in the development of CoSA in Canada.
CoSA Canada is the Canadian national organization for Circles of Support and Accountability. CoSA is a Canadian-made restorative justice program for men and women who have committed a sexual offence. CoSA allows the community to play a direct role in the restoration, reintegration, and risk management of people who are often seen with only fear and anger.
