Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering

I am working as an assistant professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Prior to this, I was working as a senior research engineer and postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M University.

My research interest is interdisciplinary in nature and focused on developing advanced methods of health monitoring for geotechnical and water-retaining infrastructures using drones, robots, and satellite data and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to those research fields. Additionally, I am also working on new reliability-based design methodologies, nature-inspired solutions, and construction using intelligent materials with NetZero energy potential to tackle the shifting global environmental patterns. I am currently a member of TRB Standing Committee on Geosynthetics AKG80 and ASCE Committee on Sustainability in Geotechnical Engineering.

In our recent publication, we provided a forensic investigation conducted on a collapsed highway embankment slope in Houston, Texas, employing exhaustive time-series optical image analysis, site characterization, laboratory studies, and numerical modeling.

Use of Satellite-based Remote Sensing for Asset Management

Our study explores the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for efficient pavement condition assessment. By comparing SAR data with UAV-generated digital twin models, the research highlights SAR’s potential in identifying early pavement distress. This innovative approach offers significant benefits for transportation asset management.

Sustainable Ground Improvement Using Geopolymers

Our recent paper highlights the potential of kaolinite-rich, alkali-activated calcined clay-based geopolymers (CCBGPs) as a sustainable alternative to conventional soil stabilizers. By leveraging locally available materials and machine learning insights, this study advances the development of eco-friendly solutions for enhancing the durability of transportation infrastructure on expansive soils.
