Research Leadership

My research projects aim to bridge normative political theory and institutional reform, combining conceptual analysis with engagement in real-world policy debates. As Principal Investigator, I have coordinated nationally funded research projects and led international collaborations on basic income, predistribution, and democratic equality.

Principal Investigator

UBIEXP (2018–2021)

The Political Philosophy and Epistemology of Basic Income Experiments
Funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)

UBIEXP was the first research project in Portugal dedicated to the philosophical and epistemological analysis of basic income pilot programs. The project generated an international research network, a structured workshop series, peer-reviewed publications, and the volume Basic Income Experiments (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022). It contributed to consolidating interdisciplinary dialogue between philosophy, economics, and public policy.

UBIECO (2023–2024)

The Moral, Economic and Social Value of Basic Income
Funded by FCT

UBIECO examined the normative, economic, and ecological dimensions of basic income policy, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration and further expanding the international research network developed under UBIEXP.

WORKER (2024, highly rated proposal)

The Future of Work and Equality of Status

This project proposal addressed the normative implications of technological transformation, automation, and labor restructuring, integrating republican freedom and relational equality into debates on work and democratic status. Although not funded, the proposal received a very strong evaluation and is being reformulated for future European submissions.

European and International Proposals

I have submitted and developed competitive European-level proposals aimed at consolidating international research networks on basic income and democratic reform, including:

These initiatives contributed to strengthening durable collaborations across European institutions and preparing future large-scale submissions.

Research Collaboration

In addition to project leadership, I have participated as a senior researcher in several funded projects on democracy, intergenerational justice, public interest theory, and crisis governance

Ongoing and Future Research

My current project development focuses on two directions:

The long-term objective is to position the University of Minho and CEPS as a reference center in normative debates on basic income, predistribution, and democratic equality.
