How To Make Ice Cream
By Colbey Semel-DeFeo
The first step is to mix milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and a tiny, tiny bit of salt in a Ziploc bag. Put a lot of ice and a little salt in a large plastic container. The next step is optional, put the Ziploc bag in a bigger one. Then, put the bag or bags in the container, and shake until it's texture is what you want. Be aware that if you don’t put the small bag into the bigger one, the ice cream will be saltier and will solidify faster when being shaken in the container of ice and salt. You will need to add more salt and ice during shaking because the ice will melt. This freezes the ice cream and not the water because the water is salty. This causes the water to not freeze because salt water has a lower freezing point. You can make other flavors too, like chocolate and strawberry, but you can't add chunks of anything or they will freeze solid. Another thing to be aware of is that no matter what flavor your making, you still need vanilla extract. The way to make other flavors is to add that type of juice into the mixture of milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Keep feeling, and tasting the ice cream while shaking the plastic container, it could get too frozen and/or too salty. You can also adjust the amount of salt you put in the plastic container, to a reasonable degree. If you want chocolate ice cream, add chocolate syrup or even Nutella to the mixture of milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. The same goes for most other flavors, except some you add the juice because there is not coconut syrup. I enjoy making ice cream and I hope you do too!
Dogs vs Cats
By: Sophie Brassard and Isabel Loyer
It’s a classic. Something nobody can agree about. Some people don’t like any of them. If you can’t decide which unique animal you like more, read this article and find out yourself! Are you a dog person, or a cat person?
Pros and Cons
Dogs
Pros - If you live alone, they make great company because of their shining personality!
They are awesome cuddle bugs!
You will feel much safer with them when alone or in a stressful situation.
Dogs are great with kids, especially if you want someone to play with!
On your daily walk with them, you will get a great exercise!
You could make a new friend! If your dog sees another dog they like, that owner could be your next best friend!
Cons – If you are planning to get a young puppy, there may be training required.
If you want to go on vacation, you have to make special arrangements to either come with you or leave them behind.
Having a dog may require extra cleaning with all the dirty paws and excess hair.
If your dog isn’t fully trained, it may be tempted to chew on furniture.
It’s a known one. It’s a dreaded one. You will have to pick up the poo, otherwise your backyard will be a living nightmare.
Dogs are definitely a big investment. From food to medical bills, your dog will not be cheap.
Cats
Pros – Cats are definitely low maintenance creatures. Give them a clean litterbox, food, and water, and you will be good to go!
If your house is known to be a bug’s battleground, a cat will end the war.
Cats also have no problem with living in a smaller place like a condo or apartment.
Cats can also be the clown of the house, jumping on furniture or playing with a fake mouse.
Just like dogs, cats are great at snuggling as well!
Believe it or not, its scientifically proven that if you spend just 15 minutes of the day with your cat, your mood will defiantly improve.
Cons – Believe it or not, your cats may have the tendency to puke.
Depending on their personality, they are likely to scratch you at least once in their lifetime.
There is no doubt you will see cat hair on your clothes, couch, and anything else it touches.
If your cat lives outdoors, it will not be odd to find bloody chipmunks and beaten up squirrels waiting for you on your porch steps.
Yes. We know what you are thinking, the litter box. Dreaded by all for many reasons, including the horrid smells, and the weekly cleanings.
Unlike dogs, cats can be savage, and will not listen to commands, nor learn them. Asking them to sit will resolve in them looking up at you like you are stupid.
Now, do you prefer cats or dogs?
