Commit to improving communication between students and the administration;
Push for more transparency on financial decisions, student fees, and academic policies;
Implement regular town hall meetings and/or feedback sessions;
Conduct a class profile survey for each year, with the potential for backlogging;
Advocate for a healthier academic environment;
Ensure diverse student voices are represented in decision-making;
Support affinity groups (BLSA, SLSA, FGN, OUTlaws, etc.) with funding and institutional backing; and
Ensure student concerns are heard in key faculty decisions with a suggestion box.
CRAFTING AN UNPARALLELED STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Advocate for a referendum with an opt-out option (a student fee which provides a LALSS Student pass);
Create wellness initiatives like stress management workshops and peer support groups;
Push for scholarships, bursaries, and emergency funding for students;
Advocate for financial literacy sessions to help students navigate loans and budgeting;
Ensure students have access to quality on-campus services and food options; and
Improve student lounge areas with appliances and ammenities.
STRENGTHENING OUR REPUTATION FOR YERAS TO COME
Advertise and educate the legal industry on the IPC:
Strengthen community-building initiatives (networking events, mentorship programs, student socials); and
Work closely with administration to provide seminars at firms and other law schools to educate both employers and peers on the IPC.
Build robust relationships with big law, public interest, in-house counsel, and other legal institutions:
Advocate for more resources to support students in securing internships, articling positions, and alternative legal careers. Work with Bay Street, but also legal clinics, in-house opportunities, and private practice connections; and
Expand mentorship programs with alumni and legal professionals.
