Three Black Bear cubs were rescued after their mom was struck and killed by a vehicle. With help from the highway patrol and the DNR we were able to capture all three cubs. (Two girls and a boy). The guy in this picture weighed 28 lbs. The girls 19 and 21 lbs. They needed to be kept all Winter as they were to young to survive without mom. In the Spring they were medically cleared and we were able to successfully release them back into the wild where they belong. They have been tagged so it will be nice to follow their story. The little male grew to 180 lbs before his release. That is really big for a yearling, thus he has been affectionally named "Big Boy".

Rehabbing Wildlife takes time, money, volunteers, compassion, and sometimes courage. The reward for the blood, sweat, and tears are the releases. These are a few of the stories that make us smile.

A terrible storm rolled thru Fergus Falls Mn. A caring and alert woman (Jen F.) learned that the storm had devastated a local rookery. She responded to see what she could do to help. There were many drowned birds. She found these babies and knew it didn't look good for them. She called and we were able to recover the birds. It took months and lots and lots of minnows but all three were successfully released back to the rookery.  The Egrets were banded by the DNR before they were released.

The day she arrived.

As she was growing up she adapted well to "training" for the real world.

The release!  She even stopped and looked back with a hiss- We were sure it sounded like "thanks".
