Never played an instrument? Always wanted to learn piano? Do you already play another instrument or have taken piano lessons? This is the class for you!
Both Piano 1 and Piano 2 put a large emphasis on music history, world music, personal music preferences, and music literacy. These courses have a flexible curriculum, allowing my teaching to be student centered and meet students musical knowledge where their at!
Piano 1 is an entry level course open to all students of any musical ability. We have 10 full size weighted keyboards and 10 mini-portable keyboards. Students also get to play and perform on our school auditorium's baby grand piano. Piano Class is designed to teach the concepts and fundamental skills needed to perform on the piano. Th class functions like a hands-on workshop where students will practice their instruments independently and as a group. The course provides an introduction to basic piano skills and serves as a basis for further study should the student desire to continue. The curriculum focuses on the development of a well-rounded musician—a proficient performer, listener and academic student with an appreciation for music. At the completion of this course, the students will have learned to play some of the standards of piano repertoire while gaining a thorough understanding of the history and basic concepts of music.
Piano 2 builds upon the skills learned in piano 1 and serves as a more advanced course for students wanting to further their pianistic and musical skills. The course centers around proficiency in scales, key-centers, sight-reading and building music literacy. Students will also have a Term Project, where students have the opportunity learn a longer more challenging piece of music, culminating in a final performance at the end of the semester.
