Winter Park table tennis @ Goldenrod Park (Orlando Magic Rec Center)

This is an unofficial fan site for table tennis program run by the Orange County Parks and Rec Department

We are a friendly yet competitive group.  Open to players age 18 and over of all abilities and skills levels.  Come enjoy the air conditioned facility, with rest rooms, water fountain, vending machines, and plenty of seating. 

Goldenrod Park also has free activities for the whole family (all ages):  A game room with a ping pong table, 2 pool tables, foosball, air hockey, and video games.   Outside the center is a tennis court and a playground featuring a shaded jungle gym, swings, and picnic tables

Attendance for this program is highly variable, it's recommended to bring a friend, make arrangements.  If you are at the facility, make use the free access to the game room and take a peek back in the multipurpose room (next to the fitness room) to see if anyone is in attendance before buying a pass or membership

The players also have a WhatsApp group "Winter Park Table Tennis" to coordinate play, if interested ask about getting added when you attend the program

Fair and Friendly Play Guidelines

When all the tables are in use:

• Consider using the game room table if it's available

• Consider playing doubles when 10 or more players are in attendance.

• If multiple players are waiting, please share the table time, play time should be equitable for all in attendance

  • Sign your name on the white board to join the queue

  • When a match ends (or after 15 minutes of practice), All players exit the table, and put their name on the board again

  • The player next on the queue gets the table and may ask anyone to play.  Or if the queue is not active, then the player who is waiting the longest. This is not winner stays up!  The player waiting the longest can ask the winner to play if they like.  Please erase the players names from the board

  • Please limit warm up time to less than 5 minutes

Open play when all the tables are not in all in use, but please be considerate of anyone waiting

Etiquette and nuance of the sign up system

• • Try to balance equitable table time with quality table time.  Round Robin with players nearest your level is encouraged and appreciated

  • Maximize the table time by being ready to play when it's your turn, arrange your next match in advance when there someone you wish to play

  • If you need a break, or the player you wish to challenge is not available, you can skip your turn and your name will remain as next on the queue

  • No one is ever requred to play, invitations may be turned down

  • Common etiquette is to allow the winner to sign up first as a thank you for the match, or sign them to the board first if they are otherwise engaged

  • Players that set up help set up the room get to play first

  • When playing doubles, ideally pair the highest and lowest level player on the same team

  • We have limited playing time, please avoid wasting it

    • Do not walk or stand near the players and playing area when a match is in progress

    • Do not engage the players at the table in conversation or stand and talk at the table before and/or after a match when others are waiting

    • Do not use multiple practice balls or the robot when matches are in progress

    • Do not leave the room and ask someone to come get you when it's your turn

    • Do not erase someone from the queue because they are not in the room
