Ways You Can Support North Mor Elementary

Donations: Classroom Snacks & Conference Meals

If you are unable to volunteer time, you can support N.M.E. and P.E.C. by donating classroom snacks for student snack-time as well as store-bought food, beverages, and supplies for conference meals and other events/meetings. Donations can be dropped off at the front office or with your child's teacher.

Participate in P.E.C.

Attend our meetings to get involved and stay informed. No experience necessary! Just come and join a group of committed family members and friends who want to continue to make North Mor Elementary an amazing school for our students. Executive positions available every year. Check out our meeting schedule page to find out when and where the next meeting will be! Stay up-to-date with P.E.C. by texting @pecevents to 81010 for P.E.C. Events & Information notifications. Also, check back on this site to review the latest Meeting Minutes.

Volunteer in the Classroom

This could be a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or one-time commitment; whatever works for you! Check out our SignUpGenius to find out which teachers, days/times and activities are available for classroom volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in your child's classroom only, please e-mail northmorPEC@gmail.com so we know that classroom will have a volunteer and we can help you through the volunteering process.

Volunteers help to:

  • provide teachers with more time to work with students
  • enrich children's learning opportunities
  • provide individual attention to children who may need more one-on-one assistance
  • promote a school/home/community partnership for quality education
  • assist teachers and support personnel in non-instructional tasks

Classroom Volunteer Tasks May Include:

  • Monday Folders: Putting student paperwork & school flyers into folders to go home to families.
  • Sharpening Pencils
  • Simple Grading
  • Helping students work through their class assignments
  • Answering basic questions on class lessons.
  • Help with practicing basic numbers, letters and words.
  • Cutting Laminated Papers
  • Help put together center activities
  • Reading: Read With or Listen To

Read With: The student is not yet an independent reader and needs assistance on words. You give the student time to sound out the words. No need for a phonics lesson! Phonics is done at another time by the teacher. The point of reading is for meaning and for the love of reading.

Listen To: You listen to students read independently. Even independent readers like to be listened to regularly.

If you're comfortable, you are always free to ask the students questions about the story to get them to retell what they read or heard. Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How are always great question leads.

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Attend a Volunteer Training session. Training is held twice a year in the evening for one hour in the N.M.E. Library. Training will cover tips on how to interact with students and teachers. Volunteers at N.M.E. are encouraged to attend this training prior to volunteering in the classroom or chaperoning a field trip. Contact us to find out when the next volunteer training will be.
  2. Check out our Online Classroom Volunteer Sign-Up, choose an available slot and sign up!
  3. Bring your photo I.D. to the front office of North Mor Elementary to check in.
  4. Sign a Volunteer Code of Conduct (only have to sign once).
  5. Sign the Volunteer Sign-In sheet in the yellow binder at the front desk every time when checking in and out!
  6. Report to Classroom or Assigned Area.
  7. Notify the teacher of your presence.

*For weekly volunteers: please let the volunteer chairperson know if you are unable to make your volunteer session and we will find someone to fill in for you during your absence.

IMPORTANT: If you would like to change the classroom or days/times that you've signed up for you could switch with another volunteer and/or edit your times if you have a SignUpGenius account or let P.E.C. know at northmorPEC@gmail.com so we can help find something else that works for you. If you would like to cancel your classroom volunteer commitments please let us know as well so we can find another volunteer to help with that classroom. Thank you for you time and commitment to helping our students and teachers!

Volunteer at School Events

We are always looking for event volunteers throughout the year. Check out the Event Volunteer Sign-Up to see what events are coming up that will need volunteers!

All event volunteers are required to check-in at the front desk prior to volunteering.
