President
Ed is a dedicated and experienced birder with a deep passion for sharing the wonders of birds and birding. As president of the NKBC since 2022, he has devoted countless hours to fostering a community that appreciates and protects the natural world. Through his leadership and commitment, Ed hopes to inspire others to develop a love for birds and nature throughout the Northern Kentucky area when leading birdwalks and at all our events.
Treasurer & Specimen Curator
Kathy is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Northern KY Bird Club. She is also the Curator of our NKBC bird specimens collection and past President of the Kentucky Ornithological Society. Kathy is a dedicated birder who, along with her husband Joe, can often be found birding throughout northern Kentucky. They also have USFWS and KDFWR raptor rehabilitation permits in order to capture and transport injured, sick and orphaned raptors to Raptor Inc. In addition, they are passionate about bird education and conservation.
Vice President
Lenny is an Environmental Sciences teacher at Boone County High School and an avid bird and nature photographer. He uses the NKBC study skins collection extensively in his classes. As NKBC Vice-President he has led numerous bird walks for the club and contributes valuable and practical knowledge to the club’s conservation goals.
Walk Leader & Volunteer
Caitlin is a bird enthusiast who enjoys birding and bird photography. Her experience with bird banding has deepened her appreciation for conservation efforts that come with studying birds up close. When she’s not in the field, she enjoys sharing her knowledge and love for birds with others. She is the social media & graphic creator for the club and also enjoys leading bird walks.

Dr. Lindsey Walters is a Professor of Biological Sciences at Northern Kentucky University, specializing in animal behavior and ornithology. She conducts research with her students on reproductive behavior in cavity nesting birds and enjoys birding both locally and around the world. She has led multiple bird walks for the club at the Campbell County Environmental Education Center.
Walk Leader & Volunteer
Jamie has been a member of the NKBC for four years. A bird enthusiast always up for a walk in the woods, he is passionate about birding and helping others find the joy in birding. Always ready for a challenge, Jamie is constantly honing his birding skills by learning bird songs and calls. One of the things he loves about birding is setting goals for species seen and competing with other birding friends. He loves hiking and birding with his son who is also an avid birder. Jamie has also led numerous bird walks for the club.

An avid naturalist and passionate birdwatcher, Elizabeth has been actively involved with the NKBC for five years. With a lifelong fascination for nature, she enjoys exploring the outdoors through birding and a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether observing wildlife or simply immersing in the beauty of the natural world, Elizabeth is always eager to connect with nature in any way possible.She is also the Event/Volunteer Coordinator in addition to leading numerous bird walks for the club.

Dave has been an active member of birding communities across eight states for the past 20 years. He enjoys locating, identifying—by sight or sound—cataloging, and photographing all bird species. Whether leading large groups, guiding one-on-one excursions, or exploring solo, he is passionate about getting into nature and observing birds in their natural habitats. With a life list of 635 species and counting, Dave is always eager to help others expand their own lists and deepen their appreciation for birds while leading walks for the club!

Sandra has been birding and enjoying nature for over 30 years. Passionate about sharing the outdoors with others, Sandra loves introducing people to birds and the natural world. Encouraging curiosity, she welcomes questions while birding and strives to provide insightful answers. Originally from New Jersey, Sandra moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, nearly five years ago and has been enjoying the adventure of exploring new states. She has led bird walks and worked at numerous club events.

Travis Young is a trip leader for the NKBC and member of the Kentucky Ornithological Society, American Bird Conservancy, and American Birding Association. His wife and two children also love the outdoors. Travis started birding during college in 2006 and holds a B.S. in Biology. He loves helping birders find target species, grow their life lists, and learn more about birding. He is also the club Optics Specialist and has an extensive knowledge of all things related to binoculars, scopes and cameras and has led numerous bird walks and other events for the club.

Trinity is a zoology graduate from Southern Illinois University with a passion for educating the community and connecting people to nature. Trinity has been passionate about birds and the outdoors for as long as she can remember. A big fan of the red-winged blackbird, she loves sharing in the excitement of each sighting and helping others tune into the sounds and beauty of the birds around them. She has led bird walks and worked at numerous club events.

Derek has been an active birder since 2020 but has always been interested in nature. As the late great Steve Irwin once said: I want to "Take the Football that is Wildlife Conservation and run it up!" With a degree in journalism and minor in photography (2015 Graduate of NKU "Go Norse"), he uses his skills to help share his love for and teach others about birds any chance he gets. Derek is the NKBC Newsletter Editor and recently archived all the past paper newsletters to digital format.
Volunteer
An avid birder since 1982, Joe prefers to work "behind the scenes", helping wife Kathy manage & transport the bird club's specimen collection. Joe & Kathy enjoyed birding with Lee McNeely, the founder of the NKBC, and help his legacy live on by continuing birding field trips & organizing bird counts.
Joe's passion outside of birding is woodcarving & anything nature-related!
