Volunteers from North Coast Muslim Association (NCMA) have done an outstanding job in volunteering the recent floods and the recovery, leading the community in the earlier hard times including 2017 flood, 2022 floods, COVID-19 pandemic, 2019 bushfire; raising social awareness, and educating people in the broader community through its volunteer team members.
During the February and March floods in 2022, the members of North Coast Muslim Association
extensively worked in the massive cleaning up, recovery and reconstruct the flood devastated
Lismore, Coraki and parts of Casino. Several members of the NCMA have employed their own service
van and carrier van to transport volunteers and help cleaning. They coordinated the SCU Muslim
students and staffs and volunteers came from distant places like Sidney and Brisbane with their family
members and worked together shoulder to shoulder with the flood affected communities. NCMA
volunteers were guardedly volunteered in East Lismore, Lismore CBD, South Lismore, Casino and remote
areas of Coraki in cleaning and rebuilding.
Besides, foods and essentials were supplied to the SCU and GSAC evacuation centres on the day of
flood. NCMA have also donated boxes of cooked meals and hampers with long life packed foods. On
the later days, the members also went door to door to share food, washing items, first aid, hygiene
and sanitary items in flood affected areas in Lismore. NCMA also helped the volunteer teams came
from Sydney and Brisbane to help locals.
