Northants Weather

Welcome to Northants Weather - a site combining weather records from Pitsford weather centre (now closed) and Brixworth, End Cottage weather station. The two sites lie 2 miles apart and north of the county town of Northampton (UK) in the Northamptonshire Uplands.

End Cottage weather station occupies a garden site in the historic village of Brixworth and now acts as a custodian of the long-term records from Pitsford weather centre as well as providing current and recent weather data for the local area.

Pitsford weather centre was established as Pitsford Hall weather station in 1998, later becoming Pitsford, Northampton - the Met Office official climatological site for Northampton. The station was set up and run by staff and students at Pitsford School as a long-running community service project in order to make quality weather data freely available to the public. The station maintained an unbroken daily weather record for 28 years,  largely through the manual observations of trained Sixth Form students.  Following the closure of the school in 2026, the operation of the weather centre was transferred to Brixworth.

Monthly weather reports and/or registers from Pitsford spanning the years 1998 to 2023 are available online and can be downloaded in various formats using the online archive.  Automatic weather station logs from Pitsford are also available to download from 2001 to 2019. The records from Brixworth comprise monthly summaries and automatic weather station logs from 2024. 

Pitsford was also the custodian of a huge of amount of historical weather records from various stations across the county, most of which have now closed. This data dates from as far back as 1880 and much of it is digitised. Gradually, much of this data will be made available via this website through the online archive. 

This website and the weather station at Brixworth still very much represents work in progress.  Do get in contact if you have any queries or suggestions on what might be included in these webpages.
