Captain John H Williams, 1896 -1978.
The Northam & District Mens Forum was founded on 20th January 1972 by Captain John H Williams with the objectives of “promoting friendship, goodwill and cultural interests among the male residents of the district”.
Currently there are around 50 members, who meet together weekly on Thursdays from 10:15am to Noon between October and the following April . Unless there is some other event such as the annual Christmas Lunch, we have a visiting speaker who will talk for about 50 minutes and answer questions.
Members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have an extensive range of interests. Our speaker programme seeks to reflect this diversity, with a mixture of topics which we hope all will enjoy. From time to time we have an, often lively, “open session” here members themselves can share their experiences and interests.
We are a non-political and non-sectarian organisation, to which all are welcome. That said, we do have an annual Carol Concert (featuring children from a local school) and a Christmas Lunch in a local restaurant. We do try to arrange other social events and trips during the year; find out about our programme of events.
Formally, we have a Management Committee, elected at an Annual General Meeting in April of each year. A copy of our Constitution is available for download (see below)
The Forum is funded by a modest Annual Subscription, find out about costs and how to join.
