Cwm Coed

Members of our group who knew Gavin Cooper will remember the 45mm gauge Cwm Coed Light Railway. Gavin had been a member of our group for about 15 years but, sadly, passed away in February 2025, following which most of the Cwm Coed line was dismantled. The railway was built to provide continuous running and shunting facilities. It was partly at ground level and in other parts it was raised up to about 5 ft. Built along both sides of a stream, the Cwm Coed was always an enjoyable, if at times somewhat challenging, railway to run on and included several bridges across the stream, some of which were 4 or 5 ft. above the water. Much of the character of Gavin’s railway was shaped by his interest in forestry railways, logging tramways and in Welsh and Isle of Man narrow gauge railways.
