In the Fall of 2009 Sigma Xi members from Endicott, Gordon, and Salem State collaborated to organized and install the North Shore Chapter of the prestigious Sigma Xi honor society. This new chapter reflects the North Shore region’s growing involvement in advanced scientific research and discoveries.
The North Shore Chapter of Sigma Xi represents all three member institutions and joins a list of Northeast chapters that includes those at Harvard, Yale, MIT, Dartmouth, Tufts, Northeastern University, Boston University, Smith College and Williams College. The organization will sponsor a biannual lecture series, an annual joint scientific conference in February, and an annual induction ceremony each spring for outstanding seniors and graduate students. All events are open to the public and interest individuals are encouraged to attend. Students in the sciences will be among those presenting at the February conference, and those who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and a capacity for developing their own research projects will be inducted as associate members of Sigma Xi during the spring induction ceremony.
