Freshwater is a crucial resource for humans and all other living creatures on earth because our life revolves around water. Therefore, sufficient clean water is essential for our healthy living as the health of the environment. According to WWF-Malaysia, the highland forests and wetlands contribute to the key of freshwater ecosystems that deliver a multitude of benefits, from providing natural resources, gene pools, and habitats for flora and fauna, to enabling water purification and flood control. In Malaysia, rivers are a major source of raw water supply. However, many of our river systems have been subjected to change by human interference resulting in negative implications. This includes the deterioration of freshwater habitats and their ecological processes.
