COMPASS: Computational Modeling of Primary School Segregation. A research collaboration between the University of Amsterdam and its Institute for Advanced Study, The University of Groningen, The City of Amsterdam and the Dutch School Inspectorate
SPIN-OUT: A project on the spiral of mutually reinforcing negative outgroup attitudes. Rising ethnic and cultural diversity of Western European societies raises concerns about threats to societal cohesion. One important worry is a possible vicious cycle in which expressions of prejudice by one group evoke aversive responses from another. We term this phenomenon a spiral of mutually reinforcing negative outgroup attitudes (SPIN-OUT). There is a strong need to better understand the conditions and processes that can lead to a spin-out and to be able to assess the potential for a spin-out to occur before it happens.
ToRealSim: Towards Realistic Computational Models of Social Influence Dynamics. The consortium contains researchers from the Netherlands, the UK, France, and Germany, leading experts on agent-based computational models of social-influence dynamics and on the empirical research methods we employ. This unique combination of skills comprises the necessary ingredients to clearing the roadblocks and bringing the power of computational modeling to bear on our understanding of empirical social influence dynamics.
