Parent consultation on PSHE/RE guidance for 2026
Welcome to Norham High School, a truly child-centred community where every pupil is supported to grow, achieve and thrive. Alongside academic progress, we are proud to offer a rich range of opportunities that help develop confidence, creativity and resilience. From taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to collaborating with the Royal Academy of Arts and working alongside universities, our pupils experience learning far beyond the classroom. This page is a celebration of all that we do. Keep checking in to discover the exciting opportunities, achievements and experiences that make Norham such a special place to learn.
Our CCF brigade have been having an amazing time down in Catterick.
They have been learning important military skills from MoD professionals, and experiencing some of the challenges and opportunities of being out in the field, including a night camping under the stars!
We've had yet more exciting activities going on across the school today, with pupils learn about the cultural traditions of the UK, Europe, and the wider world.
Tomorrow is another busy one, with Year 7s taking part in STEM Fest! Year 8 pupils are heading to Whitby in North Yorkshire for the day, wearing their school PE kit. Meanwhile, our Y9s are heading into Newcastle for a history-themed expedition. Pupils should wear school uniform, but may take trainers if it is more comfortable.
We think work experience is one of the most important parts of a child's education, as it gives them a chance to experience the opportunities and advantages of a good job.
This week, our Year 10s have been doing just that, with each of them taking their first steps into the world of work.
Feedback from employers has been absolutely phenomenal, and our staff have visited pupils on their placements and have said how well they are all doing - we couldn't be more proud of them all!
A number of our pupils took a visit to Whitehouse Farm in Northumberland this week, meeting the animals and touring the facilities with talks from the animal keepers.
As you can see, a great time was had by all!
A huge congratulations to our Year 8 pupils who have been attending the Industrial Cadet celebration event at Newcastle University.
Faith, Isabelle and William did an amazing job presenting their ideas for sustainable energy to a panel of industry experts and they were rewarded with the innovation prize for their hard work.
A huge well done to you all!
It's been another busy but exciting day at school this week. As you can see, pupils have been busy helping clean up our community, but also learning about resilience, safety, and about how to protect our environment in the future.
A special shout out to Barry's Fruit & Veg for giving pupils free fruit as a thank you for their hard work, and to all those members of the public who stopped to say how nice it was to see our pupils and staff working hard to improve the community they share.
Tomorrow is Culture Day, where pupils will be learning about the history and traditions of the UK, our European neighbours, and those even further afield across the globe. All pupils should wear normal school uniform for Wednesday
The first couple of days of our Year 9 London visit have been absolutely jam-packed with memorable activities...
Pupils have been staying by the world famous Wembley stadium and have spent the last couple of days visiting iconic locations such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Natural History Museum, and even Tower Bridge. A boat tour has shown pupils everything from the Tower of London to the Shard, and a trip on the London Eye has given a whole new perspective on the capital!
A huge thank you to Mrs Bowers for organising such an impressive itinerary, and also the Mrs Rouse and Mr Collins for giving up their time to support this fantastic opportunity.
Here's just a few photos of what our amazing cadets have been up to today, with even more to come during the rest of the week...
Ahead of the start of our annual Enrichment Week, just a few key reminders about Monday:
Year 7 pupils are on a sightseeing tour of the local area with a focus on art and design. Pupils have been asked to wear PE kit and bring appropriate protection for the weather.
Year 8 are running their own mock elections in Democracy Day, and should attend school in their normal school uniform and fully equipped.
Year 9 are journeying up to Cragside in Northumberland. Pupils have been asked to wear PE kit and appropriate protection for the weather. Some of our Year 9s are also off to London for a few days - safe travels!
Year 10 begin their Work Experience this week - good luck to them all!
Finally, our Combined Cadet Force summer camp has kicked off today with 30 young cadets heading down to Catterick to work with the military on a range of teambuilding activities.
Lots going on! We hope everyone has a great time.
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of Prom 2026. What an incredible night it was! We know it’s an emotional evening for parents and carers, so we hope this gives you a little insight into all the fun our pupils enjoyed.
From Lamborghinis to lorries, Ferraris to fabulous frocks, the legendary Norham entrance clap, prom had it all! We loved seeing the creativity our pupils brought to their grand arrivals and stunning outfits. Before everyone danced the night away, they enjoyed a delicious meal from one of our favourites… you guessed it,Sambuca’s!
Our incredible resident photographer, Miss Dingwall, is busy editing all of the fantastic photos as we speak. We’ll be sharing these very soon, along with a huge thank you to all of the wonderful vendors who helped sponsor the evening.
What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of an unforgettable chapter.
Today, we were honoured to welcome Lord Shipley from the House of Lords to Norham High School.
Lord Shipley spent the morning with our Pupil Leaders discussing the importance of democracy and how the House of Lords plays a crucial role in all our lives. This came as a result of the school successfully applying to secure a place on the Learn with the Lords programme earlier this year.
During the discussions pupils viewed parliamentary documents, examined draft bills, and also got to examine Lord Shipley’s Great Seal of the Realm.
Pupils said they got a huge amount from the visit and were inspired to learn more about how democracy works in the UK, and how they could get involved in shaping the future.
Lord Shipley said that he could see how proud the pupils were of their school, and that he could tell how strong the relationships were between pupils and their staff.
Here’s a little taster of our North Tyneside (possibly world) famous Norham High School Macarena from the Year 11 prom last night!
Lots of fabulous photographs and a behind the scenes video coming very soon.
We are delighted to share that Jazmine's poetry has been selected for publication in the 'I Have a Dream' anthology, part of a national poetry competition run by Young Writers for pupils aged 11–18.
Through her writing, Jazmine has demonstrated determination, creativity and a hopeful vision for a more environmentally aware future. This is a fantastic achievement and we are incredibly proud of her success.
Congratulations, Jazmine!
A crucial part of our work as a school is done by an amazing team of volunteers.
The governing body’s role is to oversee and work with leaders, supporting them to deliver the best education, support and experiences for the pupils who come to Norham High School.
Please follow the link to learn more about each of our fantastic school governors:
Last week, we were proud to mark Refugee Week 2026 here at Norham and explore this year’s theme of Courage.
Throughout the week, pupils took part in activities across a range of lessons, reflecting on the courage shown by people forced to leave their homes in search of safety, hope and a brighter future.
Our wonderful School of Sanctuary Committee showed courage themselves by leading assemblies for all year groups and sharing powerful messages about welcome, kindness and inclusion. They also visited our feeder primary school, Percy Main, where they worked with Year 4 pupils to explore the inspiring story of Kunkush the Refugee Cat. Many of our SOS ambassadors were also involved in the Threads of Courage fashion show at the Baltic on Saturday evening, celebrating stories of resilience, identity and hope.
To top off a truly meaningful week, we were delighted to be reaccredited as a School of Sanctuary, recognising our continued commitment to creating a community where everyone is safe and welcomed.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Refugee Week such a success. Together, we continue to build a community where everyone belongs.
We were pleased to welcome representatives from the Tyne Lifeboat Station (TLSB) into school to deliver an important water safety session for our pupils.
Pupils learned valuable information about staying safe around water, recognising risks and knowing what to do in an emergency. These are vital life skills, particularly as we approach the summer months.
While this was a positive and engaging experience for our pupils, the message is especially important given the tragic number of water-related fatalities involving children across the country during the recent half-term break. Our thoughts are with all of the families and communities affected by these heartbreaking losses.
The session also provided an opportunity to discuss respect and community responsibility. Recent local incidents saw volunteers from TLSB and the RNLI subjected to abuse while attempting to launch a lifeboat during a busy day at the beach. We spoke with pupils about the incredible work carried out by these dedicated volunteers, who give their time to help keep others safe, often in challenging circumstances.
We would like to thank TLSB for visiting our school and helping our pupils develop both their understanding of water safety and their appreciation of those who serve our community.
Some of our wonderful Year 9 girls had the pleasure of visiting Chirton Lodge for a fun-filled afternoon of tea, coffee, cake and bingo.
The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to spend quality time with the residents, sharing conversations, laughter and friendly competition. Experiences like these help our young people develop confidence, communication skills, empathy and a greater understanding of different generations within our community.
For the residents, the afternoon brought plenty of smiles, companionship and the chance to connect with the younger generation. These intergenerational visits are incredibly valuable, helping to reduce feelings of isolation while creating meaningful relationships and lasting memories for everyone involved.
A huge thank you to the staff and residents at Phoenix and Chirton Lodge for their warm welcome and hospitality. Our girls thoroughly enjoyed their visit and we look forward to many more opportunities to bring our community together in the future.
For a second time our pupils' work is set to be published at a national level. Previously, pupils had works (short stories) published by New Writing North (Young Writers Programme) and now they are all set to have poetry published too!
For over 2 years now we have fully embraced and delivered our "Write It Out" initiative - a therapeutic program that supports pupils in writing about their feelings, emotions and wellbeing. This is then used to help pupils develop oracy and discursive skills supporting them to "talk" about how they feel and what we can do to help.
We are excited to announce that Helen, our leader of this strategy, has successfully applied on our pupils' behalf to be part of the Plumblines Initiative - a program designed to support and promote writing groups working within communities underrepresented in publishing. We are delighted to confirm that Norham High's "Write It Out" initiative has been selected to be part of the next anthology of poems they are creating!!!
As such we will be honoured to have the opportunity to showcase the beautiful writing our groups produce every week, and celebrate Norham High as a school which has embraced and encouraged writing for wellbeing.
Well done to Helen and our pupils, we can't wait to see our pupils work aptly published!
Such work also follows our team's "Excellence in English" Lord Glenamara Award in 2022/23, showing the sustained impact of our wonderful English Team and Helen (part of that team) over time.
This week in Geography, our Year 7 pupils have been consolidating their knowledge of physical landscapes in the UK by creating their own models. From waterfalls to glacial landscapes, the creativity, effort and understanding shown by our pupils has been fantastic.
Well done to all involved, the models were truly impressive!
Lexi was nominated for an annual NTLT Star Award and collected her certificate last week!
We couldn't be prouder of you, Lexi—thank you for shining so brightly!
Keep your eyes peeled as one of our amazing Year 10 pupils has made it to the finals at The Exchange 1856 on Thursday 2nd July!
Threads of Courage Fashion Show in partnership with Walking With in North Tyneside !
This evening was nothing short of incredible. Many weeks of planning, preparation and hard work came together in a glorious display of creativity, talent and determination.
Our pupils were supported by a fantastic crowd of family members, friends and staff, all bopping along to the live band and cheering them on every step of the way.
Here’s a little sneak peek of what was a truly special evening. We can’t wait to share more with you soon!
Our Year 10 Hospitality & Catering pupils completed their practical examination today, demonstrating excellent planning, organisation and culinary skills.
As part of their assessment brief, pupils were challenged to design and prepare a two-course meal suitable for a vegetarian. They rose to the challenge brilliantly, producing a fantastic variety of creative and nutritious dishes.
Throughout the exam, pupils showcased their knowledge of food preparation, presentation, time management and food safety, while working independently to bring their menu plans to life.
We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and professionalism shown by all pupils. Well done to everyone involved on a successful and enjoyable practical exam experience!
Together, we looked back on five fantastic years filled with memories, achievements, friendships, laughter and growth. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on just how far our pupils have come and the incredible young people they have become.
We were then joined in the sunshine by staff and pupils for the much-loved shirt signing tradition. This year’s shirt designs were spectacular, full of creativity, personality, and memories! Although we’re sure next week’s prom outfits may differ just a little.
We will miss you, Year 11. Thank you for the memories, the smiles and the contributions you have made to our school community.
Here’s to the next chapter! We wish you every success and happiness for the future.
On Wednesday, we celebrated National Thank a Teacher Day. Here at Norham, however, we wanted to recognise not only our teachers, but every member of staff who plays an important role in our pupils’ experience at school.
Our pupils took the opportunity to write messages of thanks to staff across the school and were delighted to hand-deliver their notes of appreciation. We also had our Norham tradition of signing our appreciation wall!
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful staff who go above and beyond every day to support, inspire and care for our pupils. Your dedication and hard work are greatly appreciated by our whole school community.
Yesterday, our Level 2 Hair and Beauty GCSE pupils stepped back in time for their practical mock assessments. They showcased incredible creativity with stunning 1980s inspired hair, makeup and fashion looks.
The salon was transformed into a professional environment mirroring industry standards. Pupils demonstrated styling techniques, time management and attention to detail while bringing the bold colours and big hair of the iconic 80s to life.
Simultaneously, the other half of the class applied their knowledge of hair and beauty theory in a written assessment under exam conditions, researching historical influences that shaped the decade.
We are incredibly proud of the professionalism and commitment shown by our Level 2 pupils as they prepare for their final GCSE’s next year!
Today, our pupils have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming fashion show at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art!
After practising their poses, perfecting their stance and walking confidently in their chosen footwear, pupils took to the catwalk with determination and style. Their walks were full of pride, confidence, resilience and courage as they moved to the beat of the music, which will be performed live by the band on the night.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work, enthusiasm and creativity they have shown in preparation for this special event.
Last remaining tickets are still available for what promises to be an inspiring evening filled with creativity, talent and celebration. We can't wait to see you there!
We are well underway with our fantastic CCF recruits here at Norham High School, and we couldn't be prouder of their dedication and hard work!
Our cadets have been diving headfirst into their training and mastering some essential military and life skills. They have been working incredibly hard on:
Drill & Marching – Getting those formations perfectly in sync.
Shaping of Berets – Learning how to look sharp and wear the uniform with pride.
Caring for Kit – Developing independence, discipline and respect for their gear.
Saluting – Perfecting the fundamentals of military courtesy.
Next Stop: Summer Camp!
The countdown is officially on and the excitement is already building. We cannot wait to see them put all of these newly learned skills to the test at summer camp.
Check out this quick preview of our current recruits in action below. They are doing an absolutely amazing job! Keep up the brilliant work, team!
Earlier this half term, former a Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State for Schools, David Laws, came to Norham to see how the school is making a difference to the lives of pupils.
David passed on the following message:
‘Thank you for a very inspiring and informative visit. I learned a huge amount and this is going to be one of the 35 visits which I will most remember. I’ll be in touch later in the year when I write my book. I might also want to ask your advice again on a couple of points.
You must be tremendously proud of what you have achieved at the school.
It’s particularly the last line we heard in the drama class. I thought it rather summed up the whole visit and achievement of the school.’
The piece David saw one of our pupils perform is called "Side effects may include..."
This is an original piece both written and performed by Harry in Year 10 for his GCSE Drama course.
The line David heard Harry perform and has commented on specifically in his message was:
"I see the beauty in fixing broken things".
David went on to say:
‘That line did resonate with me in relation to the school’s journey and what you and your team have achieved. ‘
Our Pupil Leaders have taken on so much and are genuinely invested in developing our school culture - but now they have the opportunity to learn from and all about nationwide leadership.
On Friday 26th of June our Pupil Leaders have an exceptional opportunity to meet with one of our Lord's - Lord Shipley. Pupils will join him for a Q/A session and presentation all about the House of Lords. They will learn more about the vital role of the House of Lords in the UK Parliament, its decision making powers and how these impact on our economy, society, our great nation - indeed, our lives. Lord Shipley will deliver an informative presentation before taking our Pupil Leader's questions.
For more information, check out their websaite at https://learning.parliament.uk/.../learn-with-the-lords.../
On Friday the team from Phoenix Youth Detached Project (PYDP) had an exciting meeting regarding an upcoming project they plan to run with Northumbria University - this will support pupils at Norham High School. The team then delivered a "Healthy Behaviours" session to our pupils before taking a group to Override Skate Park. It was very very cool....
All Year 7 and Year 8 pupils should come to school tomorrow wearing their PE kit.
In the afternoon, we are delighted to welcome the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, who will be delivering a Water Safety Workshop for our pupils.
This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn essential water safety skills, including how to stay safe around rivers, lakes, beaches and other open water environments. The workshop will help pupils understand potential risks, learn what to do in an emergency and develop the knowledge and confidence needed to make safe decisions around water.
We are sure it will be an engaging and valuable experience for all involved.
Shoutout to our incredible Year 9 leaders from @norham.pe for their fantastic contribution to yesterday's Year 2 Multiskills event. They demonstrated confidence, enthusiasm, and outstanding leadership, inspiring and motivating all of the young participants throughout the day.
The feedback from our Primary schools was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising this exceptional group of young leaders. We couldn't be any prouder of the way they represented themselves and their school. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!
We are thrilled to announce that Norham High School has officially achieved the prestigious Gold Award with the Woodland Trust's Green Tree School scheme!
This fantastic milestone is all down to the hard work of our incredible pupils, who have been busy transforming our school into a greener, cleaner and more sustainable place.
Here is what our eco-superstars achieved to earn this top spot:
Planted 420 trees around our field's perimeter.
Built outdoor learning areas and hand-crafted beautiful flower planters .
Organized litter-picking sessions to keep our grounds pristine.
Boosted recycling efforts to actively lower our CO2 footprint .
We are so incredibly proud of our pupils' dedication to protecting the planet and improving our school environment. A massive well done, everyone!
We are proud to present the incredible work of this year’s GCSE Art, Craft & Design and Photography pupils.

Join us for an evening of impeccable vibes, refreshments and conversation as we reflect on what is undoubtedly one of our strongest exhibitions to date.
Thursday 9th July 4-6pm
Norham High School is thrilled to announce the securing of a grant from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (NEMSA).
The grant is designed to support the school in helping pupils maintain strong rates of transition into Post-16 provisions and apprenticeships - leading directly to skilled employment. This will help us ensure continuity in the growth and development of our pupils well beyond the walls of Norham High. As you know, we aren't just preparing our pupils for the next steps post-16, to us it's all about what you are doing when you are 25...
With this grant, our fantastic local vocational offer can continue to grow. These are predominantly in the fields of Hair & Beauty but also Construction, where we plan to qualify each pupil with additional qualifications in Health & Safety and the CSCS Card (known as the "Trady Card") so they are ready for the world of work.
We are proud to work with and be supported by the NEMSA who state - "Our purpose is to connect communities, upskill people, and improve wellbeing, so the North East is recognised as an outstanding place to live, work, visit and invest."
From all the pupils, staff and the community of Norham High School, we wish to thank Neil Wllis (NEMSA) for supporting us, not to mention those at NEMSA and Kim McGuinness herself, North East Mayor - thank you!

We currently have a large amount of lost property in school, including many items of branded items and accessories.
We encourage all parents and carers to ask their child to check our lost property collection in main reception if they are missing any clothing, water bottles, lunch boxes, bags, coats or other personal belongings.
Please note that any unclaimed items will be donated to charity at the end of the school year.
As a reminder, we ask families to ensure that all school clothing, coats, bags, water bottles and other personal items are clearly named. This helps us return lost belongings to their owners quickly and reduces the amount of unclaimed property in school.
Thank you for your support
Some pupils recently attended a performance of Rock of Ages, presented by talented BTEC students from Arts North Studios at The Fire Station in Sunderland.
The production was packed with energy, fantastic music and outstanding performances, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. They were also given VIP bands to access the stage, giving them the opportunity to view the venue from a whole new perspective!
Everyone had an amazing time celebrating the hard work, creativity and talent of the performers. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to engage with live theatre, gain inspiration and enjoy an unforgettable afternoon out. Thanks to Arts North Studios for this amazing opportunity!
We are proud to present the incredible work of this year’s GCSE Art, Craft & Design and Photography pupils.

We would love for you to come along and support our talented pupils!
Our School of Sanctuary pupils have been busy developing their textiles and fashion skills as they continue creating their stunning kimono project.
Using a range of techniques, fabrics, textures and creative designs, pupils have been weaving together culture, identity and powerful messages through fashion. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and confidence grow throughout the project.
We are so proud of the hard work and imagination shown in every stitch and detail!
As our pupils continue through their GCSE exams, we wanted to share a little reminder of why all the revision, emotions, determination and hard work matter.
In this video, our pupils share where they hope to see themselves in 10 years’ time. From future teachers, psychologists and engineers to detectives, business owners and so much more.
Exams do not define who we are, but they can help open doors to the futures and careers our young people dream about achieving. Every revision session, every challenge overcome and every ounce of effort is a step towards those goals.
We are incredibly proud of all of our pupils and everything they are working towards.
Keep going! Your future is waiting for you.
Our Year 7 pupils have been exploring the importance of healthy eating and learning all about the nutrients our bodies need to stay fit and well.
As part of their learning, they also took part in a fun tasting session, trying a variety of foods from the protein section of the Eatwell Guide. It was a great hands-on experience, helping them discover new foods and understand how protein supports growth and overall health!
As we get closer to the end of year, we only get closer to ENRICHMENT WEEK! Starting on 29th of June! But while we wait here's a look back at enrichment week 2025.
With the end of the school year coming up we are exited for our new Year 7s to come and take part in all the activities we have for them!
We're excited to launch our attendance awards to pupils from tomorrow.
Take a look at what is up for grabs for all of those pupils who are in school, everyday, until the last week of this half term!
We are incredibly proud to share that one of our pupils, Lauren in Year 10 has been nominated for an NTLT Star Award and selected as a finalist for the Resilience Award.
This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of the determination, perseverance and positive attitude that Lauren presents. We would like to extend our huge congratulations on this well deserved success.
We look forward to celebrating at the awards ceremony and wish her the very best of luck!
Like many others across the country, we’ve been honouring the wonderful Sir David Attenborough to mark his 100th birthday.
Our staff have adapted lessons this week to bring some of the amazing work done by one of Britain’s most influential figures into the curriculum, with pupils learning about his decades of dedication to promoting the beauty, wonder and significance of the natural world.
Pupils have also signed a card on behalf of the school on this landmark occasion. Who knows - the next Sir David could be one of our very own!
We were proud to kick off the first of four sessions in our Threads of Courage textiles project, led by Tracey Affleck as part of Walking With and Together With Refugees Tynemouth, alongside our SOS pupils.
The project brief is to design a Kimono that will contribute to a powerful community initiative raising awareness for Refugee Week. In this first session, our focus was on developing words and slogans. Our pupils truly rose to the occasion as passionate, thoughtful activists.
We can’t wait to see their final Kimono designs come to life, which will be showcased at a fashion show at the Baltic on 20th June. We’re incredibly excited for the next stage of the making process!
Our pupils have been getting creative behind the camera, taking part in an exciting photography challenge inspired by the theme of biodiversity. This open brief encouraged them to interpret the natural world in their own unique way and they certainly delivered!
From stunning close-up macro shots of intricate fungi and tiny insects, to sweeping landscapes showcasing entire ecosystems, the range of entries has been truly impressive. Pupils explored a variety of habitats, capturing animals, plants, and fungi in their natural environments. Whether in small, hidden spaces or expansive outdoor settings.
We have been blown away by the creativity, skill and thoughtful perspectives shown by pupils across KS3 and KS4. Their work highlights not only their artistic talents but also a deep appreciation for the natural world around them.
Well done to everyone who took part! You should be incredibly proud of your work!
This morning, our Year 10 pupils rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into a hands-on bricklaying practical as part of their construction lesson. It was fantastic to see such focus, teamwork and enthusiasm as they developed their skills in a real-world setting.
A special shoutout goes to Colin, our super caretaker and talented builder, who kindly demonstrated the techniques for our pupils. His expertise and guidance made a huge difference and the pupils really benefited from learning directly from a professional!
Take a look at some of the great work captured in the photos below.
As you know, we are always developing new and creative ideas to support our pupils and the community and so we welcome you to our all new "look" Prom Shop, 2026. While we have been running our free Prom Shop for a few years now, as great as it did look... we felt we could go one step better! Have a look for yourself. All items have been donated by residents across the wider community and of course, former pupils who, having received wonderful support at Norham High, wanted to give something back. We wish to thank residents / pupils for donations but also our wonderful site team and the Prom Shop Team for bringing this very "bougie shop" to life - our pupils deserve nothing less!
Yet another exceptional vocational curriculum area launched in September 2025 - allow us to introduce you to Construction. At Norham High we believe it is critical to offer a fantastic academic curriculum but also an exceptional vocational / local offer that means so much too many of our pupils. Soon they will be visiting The Tyne Tunnel who supported us with the purchase of new DT / Construction equipment recently. In this visit, they are getting an "all access" tour behind the scenes to see how this marvel of engineering keeps our local transport network in full flow. The group are making excellent progress crafting their skills and trade - some have even secured work experience in the trades with our local building sponsor, White Knight. Let's extend a huge thank you to Lee at White Knight for his support.
Our Year 7 pupils have been exploring the importance of healthy eating and learning all about the nutrients our bodies need to stay fit and well.
As part of their learning, they also took part in a fun tasting session, trying a variety of foods from the protein section of the Eatwell Guide. It was a great hands-on experience, helping them discover new foods and understand how protein supports growth and overall health
We are so very proud of our Hair & Beauty pupils who commenced their all new City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification in September. They have formed a lovely group and are working exceptionally well with Mrs Hendry - here are just a couple of sneak peak pictures. If parents or carers would like to come in and look at the group in action, view facilities or undertake a treatment themselves please do get in touch with Mrs Hendry - the group will soon open their evening booking system for pupils to attend with their parents or carer.
The group will also be offering free manicure / nail treatments to all pupils in the build up to Christmas so that they can practise and we can support our local community absolutely free of charge in getting ready for the Christmas 2026 party spirit - did someone mention Christmas?
Next month we look forward to hosting the Rt Honourable David Laws, current Chair of the AQA Exam Body and former Chief Secretary of the Treasury / Schools Minister.
David is conducting research and publishing a book in relation to schools securing outstanding results. In his initial communications David states "Your school appears to show up as one of the outstanding examples of a school which is defying" ... the odds... "and therefore there may be a lot to learn from listening to you and seeing what you are doing."
David is visiting 30 schools as part of his research and is looking forward to seeing how our practice at Norham High has a tangible positive impact on our children and young people.
Cricket Club Ambition
We wish to congratulate two of our Year 10 boys (Sam and Sujal) who have recently developed a passion for cricket. After engaging in cricket through school clubs the boys have taken the leap to join and become part of an all new community – The Percy Main Cricket Club community. Well done boys – stepping out your comfort zone to take school experiences to new areas is exactly why we do all the things we do, we are very proud of the steps you have taken and wish to thank Percy Main for making the boys feel part of their family.
https://percymain.play-cricket.com/home
If you are keen to join our cricket club it takes place every Thursday after school and is led by Mr Khan – our very own semi-professional and local “Oz-y” Cricketer and soon, we will have Miss Vince joining the team to promote girls cricket – Miss Vince has just completed a Cricket Tour in New Zealand where she has coached at an exceptionally high level.
The village of Norham is a small picturesque village situated just south of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Near-by Norham Village is Norham Castle - this was a major 12th-century border fortress in Northumberland, England, built by the Bishops of Durham to defend against Scottish attacks on the River Tweed.
Often called the "most dangerous place in England," it was besieged 13 times, including by Robert the Bruce and James IV, and is now maintained by English Heritage.
Allow us to formally introduce our Pupil Leadership Team. While we have had a pupil leadership team for a number of years, we wanted to take this area of personal development to new heights. Pupil Leaders have conducted "Pupil Voice Feedback" analysis for example and acted on this to create and deliver a termly assembly plan on the things they think matter to pupils. Most recently they delivered an anti bullying assembly focussing on protected characteristics - the right to be who you are and be free of fear for being the wonderful individual you have become. In addition to this they presented a business model to SLT and are raising funds for the school through a weekly tuckshop and at special evenings such as the school show and Parent / Carer Evening. They also represented the school and their peers in the Great North Tyneside Litter Pick while being EAL Mentor Trained and running mentor drop-in sessions.
If you wish to represent your fellow pupils and become a pupil leader or have a great idea to share, the Pupil Leader Team has a working breakfast every Wednesday morning in the Conference Room, so drop in to see them or pop a suggestion in their post box in reception.
Leaders also recently voted on an all new uniform moving away from the traditional tie and upgrading to professional suits, I'm sure you will agree they certainly look the part and we are delighted to see them fulfilling the part also.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of a new Parent Governor, Helen Telford.

We are currently looking to appoint a Parent Governor to join our school’s Governing Board.
This is a rewarding opportunity to play an active role in shaping the future of our school and ensuring the best possible education for all our pupils.
What does a Parent Governor do?
Parent Governors are full members of the Governing Board. They work alongside other governors and school leaders to:
• Help set the school’s vision and strategic direction
• Monitor standards, progress and the quality of education
• Have an overview of the school’s budget and how this is used to resource provision for the pupils
• Ensure the school provides a safe and supportive environment for all children
Governors do not get involved in the day-to-day running of the school — that is the role of the Headteacher and staff. Instead, they focus on the “big picture” and long-term development of the school.
If you are interested, please do email Jennie King ,the Chair Of Governors, at Jennifer.King@norhamhigh.org

Last week, our school came together to remember those lost in the Holocaust in a number of meaningful and reflective ways.
Pupils who are part of our School of Sanctuary delivered thoughtful and informative assemblies, helping to deepen understanding and spark important conversations. Pupils also completed a beautiful independent learning task, which encouraged them to talk with the oldest members of their families, keeping memories alive through shared stories and reflection.
On the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, pupils were given electronic candles to place in their windows, creating a powerful moment of collective remembrance.
The impact of this learning has been deeply felt by both pupils and staff across the school. One incredibly poignant response was this wonderful display created by Maddi in Year 9, which captures the spirit of remembrance, reflection and hope that has shaped the week.
This week, pupils are having assemblies about Holocaust Memorial Day. Our School of Sanctuary committee have been reminding us all why we need to learn lessons from the past in order to secure a brighter future. We’ve also had pupils listening to the live voices of those who have experienced the horrors of genocide.
The theme for this year’s HMD is ‘Bridging Generations’ and we’ve asked our pupils to speak to someone from an older generation so their stories, advice and wisdom will live on into the future. Please speak to your child about this and see how you can help us create a collage of voices from across the generations.
All pupils were also offered a tealight candle to display in their windows at 8pm this evening, as the world marks this important day.

A new year often brings thoughts of fresh starts, new goals and hopes for the months ahead, big or small. At Norham, we know that everyone begins the year in their own way.
A new year can mean different things to different people. Some may be feeling excited and ready to set new goals, while others may prefer to take things one step at a time. And that’s perfectly okay.
At Norham, we believe every pupil deserves the same care, encouragement and opportunities to thrive, no matter how their year begins.
As a school community, one of our goals for 2026 is simple but powerful, to continue being a place of stability, kindness and support for every pupil. We will keep helping each pupil grow at their own pace, celebrate their successes and feel safe, valued and believed in.
