For urgent contact with the organisers during the conference, you can reach us by telephone:
We have organised a private bus for all conference participants from the University of Stavanger campus, Ullandhaug, to the conference venue in Hjelmeland. The bus will depart from the West entrance (inngang vest) of Kjølv Egelands hus at 13:45 on Friday 25 May.
Transport from Sola airport to the University of Stavanger (UiS) is via the airport bus - select Stavanger <-> Stavanger Lufthavn Sola (SVG) via (SUS og UiS), and tell the driver you want to get off at University of Stavanger, Kjølv Egelands hus. Not every airport bus drives via the University, so make sure you ask the driver!
Please note that we will be holding a series of pre-conference seminars in room KE E-541, Kjølv Egelands hus, University of Stavanger, on the morning of Friday 25 May (see the conference program for further details). All participants are invited to attend.
If you wish to make your own way from Sola airport to the conference in Hjelmeland, one can take the airport coach (Flybussen direction Stavanger, 20-30 min, NOK 117 (online), NOK 130 (on board), credit cards accepted) to the very end (Fiskepiren) and then either:
1) a ferry boat to Tau (30-40 min, timetable, tickets) and then bus 104 to Hjelmeland (timetable), OR
2) a ferry boat to Hjelmeland with transfer at Judaberg (at 15:30, 16:45, 16:55, timetable, tickets), OR
3) a ferry boat directly to Hjelmeland (at 17:45, timetable, tickets).
The whole way from the airport to the hotel takes about 2.5 hours.
We will take a ferry direct from Hjelmeland to Stavanger city (Fiskepiren) on Sunday 27 May. The ferry departs Hjelmeland at 14:15 and arrives in Stavanger at 16:00. We will pay for this ferry trip for all registered participants, but any extra attendees are encouraged to purchase their tickets online in advance (https://billetter.kolumbus.no/, from Hjelmeland to Fiskepirterminalen on 27.5.18 at 14:30). Tickets can also be purchased on the ferry.
After arriving at Fiskepiren in Stavanger on the ferry, we recommend to take the airport bus from Fiskepiren to Sola airport. The bus leaves every 15 minutes and the trip takes approximately 30 minutes.
If you arrive in Stavanger on Thursday 24 May, overnight accommodation is possible at the brand-new Ydalir hotel, right next to the University of Stavanger. This hotel has breakfast, and can order food for lunch and dinner from several local take-away restaurants. A supermarket is also within walking distance (but note that the standard rooms at Ydalir hotel do not have kitchens). The airport bus (departing every 30 minutes) can take you directly to Ydalir hotel, but make sure to tell the driver where you are going, to make sure you catch the correct bus. The final bus to Ydalir departs the airport at 19:05 on Thursday evening.
Alternatively, if you wish to spend Thursday night in Stavanger city, it is easy to then get to the University of Stavanger on Friday by public bus 4, 6, 7, or X60. Details can be found at Kolumbus or using google maps.
Please note that we will be holding a series of pre-conference seminars in room KE E-541, Kjølv Egelands hus, University of Stavanger, starting at 9:30 on the morning of Friday 25 May. All participants are invited to attend.
As part of the conference, we have organised an excursion on Saturday afternoon by boat along Jøsenfjorden, near the conference venue. This trip should take approximately 2 hours, leaving plenty of time to explore Hjelmeland and climb the nearby hill Hjelmen (the helmet).
The most famous natural attraction in the surrounding area is the mountain Preikestolen overlooking Lysefjorden. See this link for more details. We leave it to interested participants to make the necessary travel arrangements themselves (perhaps try contacting the hotel for travel suggestions).
