The Dependencies feature keeps track of which pianos and samples that are in use by programs. This lets you move your sounds around freely without it affecting the programs and will also tell you what programs that will be affected when deleting sounds.

The Info pane brings up additional information about the program/sound dependencies. When browsing the programs, the associated pianos and samples are shown and if browsing pianos or samples, you will see a list of programs that use these sounds.

The Bundle-feature lets you pack together everything needed for one or more sounds (program, samples, pianos) to a single file on your computer. Very nice for backing up your stuff selectively or for sharing sounds you've created with others. When transferring a bundle back to your Nord instrument the Nord Sound Manager will only transfer the pianos and samples that aren't already present.

Adding new sounds to your instrument is simply a matter of connecting your instrument via USB, drag-and-drop the desired files onto the application window. The files are automatically transferred to you Nord instrument and has an intelligent Download Queue functionality for transferring many sounds at a time. Nord Sound Manager can transfer sounds from the Nord Piano Library, Nord Sample Library 2.0, Nord Sample Library 3.0 as well as sample instruments you've created yourself in the Nord Sample Editor. The Nord Sound Manager also lets you transfer program files from your instrument to your computer.

Nord Sound Manager lets you rename your sounds and programs quickly and associate them with categories on instruments that support this. The Organize Mode lets you move, duplicate, rearrange and rename your sounds and programs. You might want to put them in chronological order for the next show, or perhaps arrange them after in a special order that only makes sense to you and a select group of friends.

The Backup function lets you take a complete snapshot of your every sound and settings in your instrument, including sounds, settings. It can also be used to restore instrument to its factory settings.

And, if you think about it, how many of those thousands of samples are you actually using? Probably less than 60%. So why not have a keyboard with a memory that you can quickly and easily customise so that it is only full of the sounds you need, rather than loads of stuff you will never use.

The Sound Up function deals with individual Programs or Samples. Just select the file you want to back up and press the Sound Up button and back it up to your computer. Or, back up a group of Programs or Samples - Shift-click will allow you to select several consecutive sounds and Ctrl-click will allow you to select non-consecutive sounds. Then, only those selected files will be backed up when pressing the Sound Up button.

Searching for particular Programs is easy too. Click on the Category column header and, instantly, all your Programs can be viewed in Category order so you can quickly find the type of sound you are after. Or click on the Name column header and, now, all the Programs are in alphabetical order. Or, if you know the name of the Program you are after, then type its name in the Search box and it will find it for you.

My Nord electro 6D is having an issues, I'm wondering if anybody knows how to fix it. I downloaded sounds from the internet, and I'm able to successfully transfer them to my keyboard and play them. However, as soon as I turn my Nord off and on again, it restores to what it was before. Everytime I turn it on, i have to restore to the backup i created if I want to play the new tones. Any suggestions?

I bought it used from Pro Star Audio, and I wouldn't put it past them to sell me broken gear..

Nord manager gives you that option under program save, then you can select A, B, C, D banks. I just did it tonight to back up my Saturday show. Take just seconds. If I don't use Nord program manger for a while, I always think I have to use the back-up option which does indeed take forever.

In the OP's situation, they'll likely have the same sound sets but probably have piano alternatives. If there aren't matching samples, the manager will do it's best to find substitutes. I have some different samples in my Church Nord versus my compact, and usually it's the pianos and some odd brass things. Those are easy enough to grab. Unless you have a ton of custom samples you swap in and out- it's much faster getting the samples again, than doing a total archive.

You will need to download and install the Nord Sound Manager Version 6.74 for your PC or Mac. Additionally, if you use a PC, you will need the Clavia USB Driver v3.02 installed for windows to be able to communicate with your Stage 2/2EX. You can download it here ( -tools/nord-sound-manager)

1. With the incomplete patch selected, click on the Info icon on the top. You will be shown a window displaying the missing piano and synth samples for slot 1 and 2. You will have to download the piano sample off the Nord web page and chose a smaller sized sample if you need space. If you have a smaller version of the required piano sample then you are good to move on. Install the required custom sample from the Pete's Analog V folder (Petes Analog Velvet.nsmp. This is only necessary if the manager indicates you are missing a synth sample.

I am having an issue with getting the sound out just using it as a midi keyboard now but I see that their is signal when I am hitting keys. Also could record Audio directly from the Nord lead but could not link it to a Midi channel to get the notes properly quantized. Another issue aswell is not being able to send banks from the Nord Sound Manager to the Nord.

Nord Sound Manager is the application to use when you want to transfer sounds (pianos, samples etc) to a Nord instrument or manage the memory content.

The Nord Sound Manager is the application that allows you to organize the various memory areas, the partitions in the Nord units. It is also used to download the sounds and/or programs from a computer to the Nord units or to upload any of these items from the unit to the computer hard drive.

The Nord Sound Manager provides easy access to various methods to download the sounds to the unit and a function to backup and restore the entire units memory. The sounds and programs that can be transferred with the Sound Manager depend on what the actual unit is compatible with.

I would like to record midi and my actual Nord piano sounds - not using the software sounds in Logic Pro X. Is this possible? If so, how is it done? When choosing to record via External Midi, the MIDI signals are sent, but to get audio I have to have my keyboard connected.

To record the Nord's sounds (not the midi info) you could plug the Nord's "Right out" and "Left Out" to inputs on your audio interface. Create an audio track with the same inputs, hit record, and play what I'm sure is a remarkable keyboard.

The normal workflow is to record MIDI and have it trigger the Nord's sound, that way you can edit the MIDI performance to you heart's content while listening to the Nord's sound, and once you're 100% happy with the performance you can record the audio from the Nord.

As you have a Nord, would be awesome if you could give me some pointers, cause I'm still completely lost - not getting any sound. Using ONLY an USB cable to get both MIDI and sound would be the dream come true

I have some MIDI tracks recorded into Logic now, some done directly Nord-Mac, and some via Duet. But I just don't know how to get sound without having my Nord connected. Maybe it's the fact that I haven't used sound cables...

Correct. It's easy to be confused- They're technically both digital, but easier to think as Audio being sound, and Midi simply being information about that sound. Midi makes no sound on it's own. You can record both in Logic. Much like words or picture to the printed page- once Audio is committed it's mostly finite*, whereas with Midi you can continue to edit your performance/recording.

In the Ye old days we could only record Midi into what were called Sequencers (now called DAWs). The Sequencer (hardware or program) would record Midi information- this was way before you could record audio- and you'd have to have a physical keyboard or module to produce the sound and a Midi Cable. Many members here know the history better than me, but Logic actually started it's early days as a sequencer program from Emagic - and it ran on PC too.

You bet. Correct: Midi only for the USB. And forgive me for being obvious, it's Nord audio out to Duet line inputs. There are some synths that have built in convertors (Roland Boutique) that actually can do both audio and midi over USB- but the Nord, like many others is strictly Midi and data. If you get adventurous later on, you can also use the free Nord Sound manager program to upload more piano libraries into your Nord with that same cable.
