Organ First!

Organ First! is a research-based program designed to teach elementary school children how to play the organ as their first instrument. Developed at the Brigham Young University School of Music, in company with Wayne Leupold editions, children ages 6-11 who could not initially read music or play any instrument were taught to play the organ successfully during an 8-month class. Many of the students progressed more quickly during this period than most beginning piano students, and took obvious pride in learning to play the "King of Instruments."

Organ First! curriculum has also been used successfully by private teachers to teach individual children.

Students who are tall enough (greater than 14" from the floor to center knee, when measured in bare feet) can learn the pedals without extra equipment. Pedal Boosters, also developed at Brigham Young University, are required for shorter students.
