In the past decade, the workplace as we once knew it has undergone a dramatic transformation. From being an exception or a luxury, remote work has quickly snowballed into a mainstream employment model. This shift was propelled not just by advances in technology and digital communication but also by an increasing appreciation for work-life balance and flexibility among employees. The sudden onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this trend, making remote work not just an option but a necessity for many organizations around the globe.

However, the adoption of remote work is not merely about granting employees the freedom to work from home or anywhere else. At its core, it represents a shift in organizational culture. A robust remote work culture is pivotal as it goes beyond the physical boundaries of an office to foster collaboration, motivation, and cohesion among scattered teams. It dictates how engaged, productive, and connected an employee feels, regardless of where they are located. As businesses navigate this uncharted territory, many are discovering a secret weapon to bolster their remote work culture: global hiring.

Different cultures come with distinct ways of viewing challenges and devising solutions. A diverse remote team ensures that when a problem arises, it is approached from multiple angles. This multidimensional problem-solving technique often results in more comprehensive and innovative solutions, which a homogenous team might overlook.

Working in a diverse remote team often necessitates enhanced communication. Team members become more adept at explaining their viewpoints, understanding others, and finding common ground. This constant refining of communication skills is beneficial not only within the team but also when dealing with clients, partners, and stakeholders from various cultural backgrounds.

Building a cohesive remote culture in a global team is not about erasing differences, but rather celebrating and leveraging them. By fostering open communication, promoting understanding, and taking proactive steps towards inclusivity, organizations can harness the power of global diversity while maintaining a unified and harmonious team culture.

Before radiation used for remote sensing reaches the Earth's surface it has to travel through some distance of the Earth's atmosphere. Particles and gases in the atmosphere can affect the incoming light and radiation. These effects are caused by the mechanisms of scattering and absorption.

Because these gases absorb electromagnetic energy in very specific regions of the spectrum, they influence where (in the spectrum) we can "look" for remote sensing purposes. Those areas of the spectrum which are not severely influenced by atmospheric absorption and thus, are useful to remote sensors, are called atmospheric windows. By comparing the characteristics of the two most common energy/radiation sources (the sun and the earth) with the atmospheric windows available to us, we can define those wavelengths that we can use most effectively for remote sensing. The visible portion of the spectrum, to which our eyes are most sensitive, corresponds to both an atmospheric window and the peak energy level of the sun. Note also that heat energy emitted by the Earth corresponds to a window around 10 m in the thermal IR portion of the spectrum, while the large window at wavelengths beyond 1 mm is associated with the microwave region.

During World War II, the federal government forcibly moved more than 10,000 Japanese Americans to the Manzanar War Relocation Center in a remote area of California. In 1992 Congress passed the Japanese American National Historic Theme Study Act, designating Manzanar a national historic site. Maintained by the National Park Service, Manzanar today preserves the stories of wartime internment of American citizens.

In February 1942, two months after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an executive order authorizing the evacuation and internment of Japanese Americans residing in the western United States and Hawaii. Congress legislated to implement the relocation of approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans to remote camps for the duration of World War II, resulting in tremendous loss of property and rights. In 1980 Congress established the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians, which recommended that restitution be made to former internees. In 1989 the U.S. government issued them a formal apology.
