(Also, Bruges is quite close to Ghent, if one enjoys visiting a beautiful town crowded with tourists.)

For getting around, Ghent is very cycling-friendly. We do have some bike rental services:

 - We have app-based services like Donkey Republic and Dott, 

 - We have a day rental from the fietsambassade, you have to book it in advance, and the pickup point is quite far from the main station.

Another way of getting around that I can recommend is using the trams or buses.

That being said, Ghent is a small town, so walking is also a decent option.
