The safety of our children is our top priority. NOLA-PS and all its schools are dedicated to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all students and families, regardless of immigration status. While we intend to comply with the law, our commitment to the well-being and safety of our school community remains paramount.
The U.S. Supreme Court established in the 1982 case Plyer v. Doe that children cannot be denied a free public education based on their immigration status or their family’s immigration status. This protects the right to education for all students.
As a public school district, our obligations under federal and state law are to educate all students and we will continue to honor that responsibility.
Our Obligation
Educational Rights Extend to All Students, Regardless of Immigration Status
Ensuring Adherence to State and Federal Laws Protecting Student Privacy Rights
Compliance with Judicial Warrants, Subpoenas and Judicial Orders
We are here to support our children and provide them with a safe and welcoming educational environment. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the information of all our students. Our schools have protocols in place to respond to any enforcement activities to ensure that students feel secure. Families are encouraged to reach out to their respective schools with any questions or concerns.
While NOLA-PS is doing everything we can to ensure school campus remain a safe place for all students, we know concerns remain in our community when outside of the home or school. We are providing resources for families to explore on this page if assistance is needed.
