Welcome to my website!

My name is Michaela Nogolová, and I am currently a first-year PhD student. My research interests lie in the field of quantitative linguistics, particularly in the area of syntactic analysis. Allow me to provide you with a brief overview of my experience and research endeavors.

I embarked on my academic journey at the University of Ostrava with studies focused on the Czech language and literature. I obtained a bachelor's degree from 2017 to 2020. Building upon this foundation, I continued my studies at the same university and obtained a master's degree from 2020 to 2022. Currently, I am engaged in PhD studies in the Department of Czech Language, where I am delving deeper into my research interests.

My current research revolves around the quantitative analysis of syntactical units, with a particular focus on linear dependency segments (LDS, Mačutek et al, 2021) a recently proposed unit that hierarchically lies between word and clause. I am actively involved in two ongoing research projects: one investigating the syntactic complexity of non-native Czech speakers and the other exploring quantitative syntactic stylistics in contemporary written Czech (both supervised by Miroslav Kubát).

In 2016, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Braga, Portugal, where I worked in educational institutes. This experience broadened my horizons and enriched my understanding of different cultures and educational systems.

In 2022 I spent a week at the University of Sheffield where I presented a paper with Michaela Hanušková and Radek Čech called Quantitative analysis of texts written by non-native Czech speakers.

As for my other working experiences, from 2021 to the present day, I work as a Czech language lecturer for SCIO, where I have the privilege of preparing primary school students for the entrance exam. I am also part of the team that evaluates and examines candidates for Czech citizenship.

I am delighted to have this platform to share my experiences and research with you. If you have any questions or would like to collaborate, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for visiting my website, and I look forward to connecting with you!
