Nocta is built local-first. The app works without an account, and your preferences stay on your device. We designed it so that we collect nothing at all.
No personal data collected. Nocta does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or any other personal information.
No account, no sign-in. You can use the full app without creating an account or signing in anywhere.
Favorites stay on your device. Your favorite sounds are stored locally on your iPhone. They are never uploaded to our servers — we do not have servers, and we cannot see which sounds you prefer.
Subscriptions. Payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple communicates to us only aggregated, anonymized sales statistics. We never see your name, payment method, email address, or location.
No tracking, no ads, no analytics. Nocta contains:
No advertising
No third-party trackers or analytics (no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Facebook SDK, no ad networks)
No IDFA tracking
No cookies or web tracers
No SDK integrations
Sleep companion: Providing 48 ambient sounds organized in 9 categories (fire, rain, sea, forest, home, city, snow, farm, white noise) to help you fall asleep.
Trial access: Tracking your 7-day trial from first launch, and validating your subscription status so the app works offline.
System audio: Reading your device's volume level to warn you if the phone is muted — this check stays local and is never recorded or transmitted.
Three pieces of information are stored in your iPhone's local storage (UserDefaults), never transmitted, and deleted when you uninstall the app:
Favorite sounds: A list of sound identifiers you've marked as favorites (e.g., fireplace, veranda). These are text tags only, not linked to any personal identity.
Trial dates: The date you first launched the app, and a control date to prevent bypassing the trial by changing your phone's clock.
Subscription state: Whether your subscription is currently active or not. This allows the app to function offline.
None of this data leaves your device or reaches us.
Backups: If you use iCloud device backup, Apple may include the app's local data in your encrypted device backup, under your own Apple account settings. We have no access to it.
Deletion: Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all local data, including your favorites and trial state.
Nocta requests no system permissions from your device:
No microphone access
No camera access
No location access
No contacts access
No photos access
No notifications permission
No HealthKit access
The app uses iOS's background audio mode to continue playing when your screen is off. Reading the system volume level is a local operation only and is never stored or transmitted.
Because your data never leaves your device, you have complete control:
You can view and delete your favorite sounds from within the app.
You can delete all data by uninstalling the app.
You can manage your subscription in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions.

Nocta is an iOS application offering 48 ambient sounds in 9 categories to help you fall asleep. By using the App, you agree to these terms.
Core features: All 48 sounds are available during a 7-day free trial from your first app launch. After the trial, 9 sounds (one per category) remain free forever.
7-Day Free Trial: Your trial begins when you first launch the app. During this period, you have access to all 48 sounds at no cost. The trial period is tied to your device and cannot be reset.
Free sounds: After your trial ends, one sound from each of the 9 categories (9 sounds total) remains available to you without a subscription, indefinitely.

Billing & Cancellation: Subscriptions renew automatically via your App Store account on the date they expire. You will not be charged before your current subscription expires. You can cancel anytime in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Nocta. If you cancel, your access ends at the next renewal date.
Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple only, through your App Store account settings.
Nature of subscriptions: Your subscription is a digital service license to access the full Nocta sound catalog. It is not a purchase of the sounds themselves, and no permanent ownership is granted.
Your favorites stay private. Any sounds you mark as favorites are stored on your device only and are never shared or transmitted.
No offline guarantee is made, except that subscription status is cached locally so you can use the app offline briefly. For full offline access, you must have an active subscription, which you can restore by opening the app with internet access.
Deleting the app: If you delete Nocta, all local data (favorites, trial state, subscription status cache) is permanently deleted. When you reinstall, you can restore your subscription via App Store → Restore Purchases if you still have an active subscription.
Nocta is available on iOS 17 and later. We may release updates, including bug fixes, new sounds, or feature improvements. Updates are provided at our discretion and may be required to continue using the service.
Sleep aid, not medical treatment. Nocta is a companion tool to help you relax and fall asleep. It is not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have sleep disorders or medical concerns, consult a healthcare professional.
No guarantee of results. We do not guarantee that Nocta will help you fall asleep. Sleep quality depends on many factors outside the app's control.
Use at your own discretion. You are solely responsible for how you use Nocta and any consequences of its use.
All sounds, images, and software in Nocta are owned by Marie-Alix Ayrault or licensed to her. You may not copy, modify, reproduce, or distribute any content from the app without permission.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Marie-Alix Ayrault is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Nocta, including but not limited to loss of sleep, emotional distress, or any other harm.
These terms are governed by the laws of France. Any dispute shall be resolved in the competent courts of Bordeaux, France.
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the new terms. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the most recent update.
