Kai Hansen is a filmmaker, cinematographer, and writer based in Los Angeles who is skilled in many facets of production, pre-production, and post-production - from lighting/DOP work to camera operation, directing and color grading. His most recent film, Downstream, was selected for screening in competition at the Twin Falls and Butte Film Festivals, and won Best Horror at Butte.Â
He has worked on numerous productions that have screened at festivals around the country, such as LA Shorts and the Athens International Film + Video Festival. As a videographer, he has shot numerous concert/dance videos, as well as social media for Oberlin College, where his content produced over 60,000 views. Kai additionally presided over brand management amid the restructuring efforts of the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission, a venture which resulted in immediate gains in attendance to their museum. H-DN was named a finalist for Film Commission of the Year just a year later.
Kai's style skews towards the naturalistic, with emphasis on space and formalism to indicate character. Every camera movement and trick of the light matters in his compositions because life is about the little things, small flourishes moving seamlessly through the pores of a breathing story.
