Storm Operations
SKYWARN® is a national network of volunteer severe weather spotters. The spotters are trained by local National Weather Service Forecast Offices on how to spot severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, flooding, snowfall and ice accumulation. Although it's highly recommended you complete the training, you do not need to be a trained weather spotter in order to check-in to our severe weather nets.
How to participate
When a severe weather watch is issued for Hamilton County, a severe weather net will activate on the 145.170/443.55 MHz 77 Hz CTCSS tone linked repeater system
If you are a Hamilton County Emergency Management volunteer you will first want to check in on WebEOC through the "amateur radio check-in" option. When your call-sign's suffix group is called on the net, check-in with your radio and let net control know you also checked in on WebEOC
If you are not a HCEM volunteer check in with your name, call-sign, location (nearest cross-streets) and if you're a trained weather spotter
What to report
Quarter Size Hail
55 MPH or greater winds
Flash Flooding
Inch per hour measurements on rain and snow
Sightings of a funnel cloud or tornado
