Noah Batten was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was raised in Moncton, New Brunswick. He was a largely self-taught musician, who learned to compose, produce, and edit through personal projects.
Batten began his composition studies under Dr. Kevin Morse at Mount Allison University. He graduated from Mt. A with a Bachelor of Music in 2023.
Batten then moved to Ottawa, Ontario to study under renowned Canadian composer Dr. Kelly-Marie Murphy. In 2025, he graduated with a Master of Music (Concentration in Composition) from the University of Ottawa. He also completed a microprogram in Composing for Media, studying under film composer Edmund Eagan, musicologist Daniel Villegas Vélez, and electroacoustic musician/sound designer Caleb Abbott.
Following the completion of the Masters program, Noah continues to be based in Ottawa.
Batten's music often incorporates film elements, electronics, and extended techniques. He looks forward by looking to the past. Batten often takes inspiration from the early 20th century, he has often set text from material produced in the 1920s (H.P. Lovecraft, Vachel Lindsay, Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven) and scoring films produced in that era ("Trolley Troubles", early Mickey Mouse cartoons, Fleischer's "Superman" cartoons).
Informed by his experience as a percussionist, Batten has written works for percussion ensemble.
Batten was commissioned to compose original music for some modern films ("The Dead End Club", "Thought That Counts") and commercials (IGLA Canada).
