Distance is a private tool for keeping no contact after a break-up. There is no account, no sign-up and no profile. This policy describes exactly what the app stores, what it sends, and what it does not.
Your journal, your check-ins, your reasons and your streak stay on your phone. The only thing that leaves the device is what you type to the coach, which is sent to our AI provider so it can write a reply — and it is not stored by us or linked to you.

None of this is uploaded, backed up to us, or readable by anyone but you. It is stored with iOS file protection, so it is unreadable while your phone is locked. If you delete the app, it is gone.
When you send a message to the coach, that message and the recent messages in that conversation are sent to DeepSeek, our AI provider, so a reply can be generated. Requests carry no name, no email, no device identifier and no account — only the text of the conversation and a short line of context such as which day of no contact you are on.
We do not store these messages on any server of ours; the transcript you see is kept on your phone. DeepSeek processes the request on infrastructure operated in China and its own privacy terms apply to that processing. If you would rather nothing left your device, do not use the coach — every other part of the app works without it, including the day count, the panic button, the journal and the widget.
Messages that our on-device safety check identifies as describing self-harm are never sent anywhere. They are answered on your phone with crisis line information.
Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether a purchase is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier generated for your install and the receipt Apple issues. We never see your payment details — Apple does not share them with us.
No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no ad identifiers.
No third-party trackers or social SDKs.
Nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera access is requested.
Nothing is used to build a profile of you.
Daily reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely by your own device. They are not push notifications; no server is involved and we cannot see whether you receive or open one. You can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.
Settings → Delete everything erases your journal, check-ins, coach transcript and streak from the device immediately and permanently. Deleting the app does the same. Because we hold none of it, there is nothing for you to ask us to delete — but if you have a question, write to us.
Distance is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data held about you. In Distance's case the data is on your own device: you already have all of it, the journal can be exported from the Journal screen, and Delete everything removes it. For anything else, contact us.
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the new version is published here before the change takes effect in the app.
