Airports

Newport News is 30 minutes from the Norfolk airport (ORF), 1 hour from Richmond (RIC) and about 3 hours from the Washington DC airports (IAD and DCA).  There are several participants from the DC area, you may be able to arrange a ride with one of them.

Lodging

A. If you prefer to book a hotel room, past participants stayed at the Marriott (closest - 1 mile), Holiday Inn and Sonesta Suites.  There are more hotels within a 3-mile radius.

B. If you prefer to share an apartment or house, here is a starting point for Booking or AirBnb.

For the hotel search, I used Kayak with filters set to 3 stars and above, and guest ratings of at least 7. I checked availability for the dates December 27 through January 2. On Booking and Airbnb, I configured the search for 6 guests across 3 rooms. In every case, I centered the map on the preferred area to narrow the results. This is just a starting point—you’re welcome to adjust the criteria to better suit your preferences.
