Objective 1: By August 14th, 2022, I will have edited at least 5 podcasted episodes of The Border Patrol.
Learning Activity: To accomplish this, I will need to learn and sharpen my skills in the application CoolEdit as well as learn how to upload to Omny Studio
Evaluation: How timely and the quality of producing segments will decide how proficient I was at this task.
Reflection: It is not August 14th as of writing this, but I am fairly proficient now in CoolEdit and have edited shows spanning the entire month of July. I have yet to learn Omny Studio but I was shown my the Production Manager Ben Messner how the website uploads episodes and then branches out to various podcasting/audio sites.
Objective 2: I will have created ten segments for the Border Patrol to appear on air by the end of the internship.
Learning Activity: Important skills that have been outlined for this task include editing and preparing sounds sourced from ESPN's database and writing throws that compliment the content.
Evaluation: I will create a reel with all of my broadcasted segments and post them to the "Samples" section of the site.
Reflection: I am currently at 9 samples on my website that have been posted to Omny Studio beginning June 2nd. I have included the segment from July 14th where I was able to hop on and ask New Orleans Pelicans scout Jarrett Sutton a question relating to the 2022 NBA Draft, a highlight of my time here. I never would have thought I would have such a role at 810 Radio but after the first couple times I made appearances, I sharpened my content and came everyday with some prepared content. It really made me re-think how I conduct interviews and I am proud of what I have put out so far.
Objective 3: The final objective I want to achieve is to master the phones. The phones at 810 radio are the most important aspect of the operation. I want to be able to be proficient at all the nuances to the system.
Learning Activity: This objective involves learning how to coordinate, call, and throw guests to the hosts from across the map whether it's Gary Lezak our local daily weatherman, or Jeffri Chadiha of NFL Network. Screening calls is another important skill involved with this objective and running live contests through the broadcast answering the phones for those endeavors.
Evaluation: The goal I'm outlining is a bit intangible but once I am given the reigns to conduct all calls and screenings, I believe I have reached this objection.
Reflection: As I write this on my last official day of interning for LA & S 490, I just conducted two radio contests for tickets to the Kansas Lottery. I believe master was a bit of an ambitious term to use, but I definitely have gotten more comfortable. I leave the calling of guests to the producer as he has all the phone numbers and also is paid to coordinate and get them set up but running the contest really tested me and is something I down the line will get less anxious with.
