Branch 422 of the Canadian Legion was formed and organized in 1946-47. Members were veterans who had served in the Army, Navy, or Air Force from World War II, as well as some from World War I. The first president was John A. Stewart.
The first meetings were held in Stewart's Hall at 157 Main St. Soon after plans were made to obtain their own building. The first legion building was on the farm of Andrew Ross, in East Williams Township. That building was moved to today's site in 1947. The building was later enlarged and put on a foundation.
Over the years, the building grew to complement the village. The Legion has been a pillar in the community.
The Canadian Legion has been helpful in aiding the obtainment of pensions due to veterans
The Legion has hosted many other groups, such as the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Scouts
Currently, the Legion hosts wing nights once a month, for eight months of the year. Stop by!
