The Natural Language Processing workshop at the Deep Learning Indaba 2024 takes place on, Friday, September 6, 2024. It is organised by the Masakhane Community, Data Science Nigeria, Gates Foundation, CLEAR Global and GIZ "FAIR Forward - Artificial Intelligence for All"
Discover the transformative potential of combining African languages with advanced machine learning techniques at our "Voices of Africa: Building the Infrastructure for African NLP." This workshop is designed to delve into the integration of African languages with state-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies. Participants will explore how these innovations can drive significant social impact and foster research that is crucial for the development of the African continent.
Gain insights from leading experts who are shaping the future of NLP in Africa. Whether you're an experienced data scientist, a language researcher, or someone passionate about technology's role in societal transformation, this workshop offers valuable opportunities to learn, collaborate, and innovate.
In this workshop, we aim to engage the African ML community, alongside partners from the Global South and international funders. The outcome of this workshop and the engagement is to take stock of the state of African NLP and determine the most promising approaches for developing African language AI infrastructure. Building on previous workshops and ongoing initiatives, this event will provide a crucial platform for the African community to actively shape and direct the next steps in enhancing African language AI.
This workshop will also be a venue for students interested in NLP to connect with each other and with leaders in the field and obtain feedback on their work.
