NLP for Social Good (NLP4SG) is a new initiative (starting from ACL 2021) aiming to empower NLP researchers who want to consider societal impacts of their work. We have a list of events, resources, and discussion channels for all that are interested :)!

3. Survey result overview "How Current NLP Researchers Think about NLP4SG" (2021, keep updating) compiled based on our NLP4SG survey
4. Register for a reading group (once a week for 8 weeks) to go through NLP4SG papers & questions with a group of NLP researchers! The tentative plan is to target at a small but focused reading group of 10-20 core attendees. [Link & Time: TBD, ~Sept 2021]

Format: We will have several subgroups, where each subgroup can focus on a specific NLP4SG topic. Our pool of topics include: define NLP4SG, brainstorm impactful topics for the NLP4SG research agenda, evaluation metrics, interdisciplinary approaches, or a range of specific topics such as Healthcare, Education, Climate Change, Poverty, etc. We also welcome people to impromptu new topics.
Highlights: In response to the recent urgent problem of climate change, we invited Prof Markus Leippold (University of Zürich) to join our discussion on NLP for climate change.
