1) Establish and adhere to reasonable weekly office hours, be available for advising appointments and expand hours during registration periods.
2) Review any holds on students account and direct them to the appropriate offices for removal. Be sure to remove the Advisement hold.
3) Be sensitive to the needs of a diversity of students.
4) Understand the mechanics and deadlines of enrolling students, such as scheduling on the web, adding and dropping classes, closed class options, and contacts in the Office of the Registrar.
5) Understand how to navigate GothicNet and Navigate.
6) Understand University grading policies, including probation and academic suspension.
7) Be familiar with a variety of university degree and program offerings, departmental and college requirements as well as university-wide general education requirements (as explained in the NJCU Course Catalog).
8) Assist students in exploring course and program offerings and career choices.
9) Know where to refer students with special needs or interests (e.g., Counseling Center, Study Abroad Office, etc.).
10) Help students plan a course of study based on aptitudes, life goals, career interests, academic performance, and the frequency and sequencing of course offerings.
11) Help students continually reassess their course of study in light of the changing goals and overall academic performance.
12) Share information about opportunities in their major and intended career field (e.g., internships, volunteer and service learning opportunities, etc.).
