Why does the PHEV have a lower towing capacity?

The Mazda CX-90 PHEV has a lower 3,500-pound towing capacity (vs. 5,000 lbs for some gas models) primarily because of its hybrid battery and electric motor placement, which adds weight and changes weight distribution, plus the design prioritizes fuel efficiency and electric range over maximum brute towing power, a common trade-off in hybrid engineering, though its available Towing Mode still offers good stability for its class.
