Dynamic bicycle route and en-route bicycle facility recommendation system towards bicycle-metro integration in the Indian context

Bicycle metro integration is associated with several benefits such as the expansion of stations catchment area, transit ridership increase, reducing congestion etc. Even with the average trip lengths in India predominantly falling within the Bicycling threshold, the modal share of bicycling is declining. Also, the estimated patronage for metro stations is not achieved. In this context, it is essential to promote bicycle metro integration.


This study addresses how soft measures such as a dynamic bicycle route choice recommendation system can facilitate existing bicyclist users and promote potential users to shift to cycling. The study also aims to develop a facility recommendation system focusing on bicycle parking infrastructure and an onboard bicycle carrying facility.
