You earn money by selling items you find as you play normal survival using /sell, you can build farms with materials from /shop or from yourself, and also there is the auction house where you can buy items from other players using /ah, or add your own items to make money yourself using /ah sell

You can only earn Gems within the main world not the lobby and you earn 1 gem every minute you play, +5 gems for each wither killed, +10 gems for killing the ender dragon, and +15 for killing the warden. you can sneak to view the countdown.
