Our league follows the MAHA rule book with a few variances:
Cross Checking, slashing and high sticking are all 4 minute penalties.
Three penalties will result in an ejection and another player serving the third infraction.
The penalty cap is 30 minutes which will result in a one game suspension.
The secondary cap is 45 minutes which will result in a 2 game suspension and a board review.
Fighting is an automatic game and an ejection.
Any punch thrown is considered a fight.
In the case where only one player throws a punch they will be the only player ejected from the game for a fight.
Abuse of the official is a 10 minute penalty and an ejection.
Any swearing directed at a ref or in the perceived direction of the ref is considered abuse of an official.
If the abuse happens within the last 5 minutes of the game the player will be ejected from the game and miss an extra game.
Team officials are the only ones allowed to speak to the ref in the case of a dispute.
Each team should have two team officials and they should be the first two names listed at the top of the scoresheet.
The ref has the discretion to dismiss a player within the last 10 minutes of the game if they feel the game may get out of hand.
A ref dismissal may be considered a 2 minute misconduct and not a 10 minute but, it is at the discretion of the ref.
Players must be 18 years of age or older to play.
A player can only lift their stick to waist high when executing a slapshot.
If a game ends in a tie a three man shoot out will decide the winner.
If it is tied after three shooters the initial three shooters may not shoot again until every skater on the roster has gone.
The team in the home bench gets to choose whether or not they shoot first.
In a playoff the shootout is a five person shootout that follows the same format.
Refs may decide to run the clock with 5 minutes left if the game is getting out of control or the score warrants.
A player who causes an injury to another player that requires them to leave the game may be asked to leave the game as well.
If the player injures a player a second time during the season requiring them to leave the game they will be subject to a board review before they return to game action.
Players must have a minimum of 5 games in the regular season in order to qualify to play in the playoffs.
Teams with players who do not meet the prerequisite will forfeit the game.
Each player must wear an identifiable number
if the player's name is illegible on the scoresheet their goals, assists and games played will not be counted but their penalty minutes will still be tallied if possible.
Players must respect each others boundaries. Any face washes or unnecessary pushing and shoving after the whistle may be penalized.
The game is scheduled for a 1 hour slot. Timekeepers may need to run time in the 3rd period to ensure that all games are completed on schedule.
