With the large influence Facebook has on society nowadays news spreads like wildfire on the social media platform. Whether this news is accurate is a different story, "fake news" has become a term associated with Facebook. A few examples of what would be considered fake news would be all the conspiracy theories spread about election and covid-19. There was even a theory about Hilary Clinton having a sex trafficking ring in a restaurant's basement, which resulted in that restaurant getting shot up even though there was no basement in that restaurant. People have different motives to spread their fake news whether it be a strong opinion they want to be heard or a taunting article thriving in profits from all the clicks. This has had catastrophic back fire on Facebook as a company because of them being the platform making this possible, this has also had big affects on users. The users are being fed information that is false and at first glance one may take that as factual unless they took it upon their own hands to research. Facebook has attempted to rectify the spread of fake news and violence by banning users who may be planning a terrorist event or anything violence related. Facebook has also removed posts that may be considered harmful to users. As a result people have come to say Facebook is too powerful, having control of what is and isn't allowed to be posted on their platform. I think the best solution would be for governments to set strict laws and have access to any threatening content without Facebooks approval first. As technology is so rapidly advancing so should be the laws to maintain balance in society.
