E Bike Hub Motor
An electric bike is a motorised bicycle with an attached motor or engine and transmission which is used to either assist the pedalling or power the vehicle unassisted. It usually has two pedals and a connected drive for rider-powered propulsion. It is a power-assisted bicycle.
Now electric bikes are developed as a complete design or as an add-on to the standard bike. Due to the development of new lighter and more powerful batteries, electric motors like the hub motors have become popular. Brushless hub motors are popular in modern designs.
There are two main categories of electric bikes. One is the bike that assists the rider’s pedal power and the second is the bike that has a throttle and uses a moped-style functionality. Both types allow the riders to pedal and are therefore not called electric motorcycles.
How does the e-bike hub motor work?
The hub motor is an electric motor added to the hub of the wheel to drive it directly. When you push the pedals on a pedal-assisted e-bike the hub motor engages and gives you a boost. This will help you climb the hill and pass through the rough terrain easily. You can control the speed with your feet and also accelerate easily.
To reach your point faster you can pedal harder and the more the boost you will get from the motor. Some of the e-bikes allow you to control the power assist and offer modes like ‘Eco (low)’ and ‘Turbo (high)’.
When you pedal the e-bike a sensor will measure your effort and match it with the hub motor’s power output. The e bike hub motor will not completely take over the riding. But you get a consistent power boost which will not send the bike forward.
The hub motor can be powered by using a rechargeable battery used on the bike. The amount of power the motor delivers depends on how hard you pedal and the mode of assistance you select.
About riding E-bikes
● E-bikes can be a source of exercise for individuals who are otherwise sedentary. With e-bikes, you can ride for a longer time and get a significant amount of exercise.
● To ride an e-bike you have to switch on the motor, select the mode of assistance and start pedalling. The e-bike hub motor will make the initial acceleration much easier and help you keep up the speed.
● E-bikes are zero-emission vehicles and they emit no by-products. They make a lesser impact on the environment.
● The battery, motors and other components make the e-bike heavier than the standard bikes. The most common types of e-bikes are the mountain-bikes and hybrid bikes
● You can lower the assistance level while riding to conserve the power and increase the distance that can be travelled.
